DJ J(KIDD), Host of Da Reggae-House Party

About Me

He was inspired to step back into the booth after watching DJs at the club … but in the beginning there was one.Born in Chicago’s old-school Red District on the city’s West Side, DJ J(KIDD) got his start DJing house parties back in the day. He was only 12 years old. When most cats were scratching and mixing on tables, J(KIDD) was armed with two dual tape decks and four 12" speakers. Nevertheless, he kept the house parties jumping through high school. “That’s when everything changed,” J(KIDD) said. After graduating from high school, he went to college to pursue bigger and better things. But music still had its hold on him – the (KIDD) was known to always have the latest music. But as time passed, the obsessive music collector was lured by big beats and an energetic crowd and felt a comeback was in order. “My encouragement was watching other DJs spin at the club and talking to them,” said J(KIDD). And so began the rebirth of a methodical mix master and his arsenal of club bangers. “I don’t think I’m the biggest, baddest DJ out there,” he said. “I’m just doing what I like, listening to music and entertaining.” “Da New (KIDD) on Da Block” is holdin’ it down at birthday parties, weddings and family get-togethers and can be heard on Sundays at Club Zentra. “I felt like I should have continued the movement into DJing, but stopped because of college,” said J(KIDD). “Years later, the urge to hit the table resurfaced and I stand before you today.”On Firday's I host "Da Reggae - House Party" Online Radio Show. I combine the best of both worlds in one night. I will be playing “Da Coolest Reggae Music 4 Da 1st Hour” and “Da Hottest House Music 4 Da 2nd Hour”. Get Ready Chicago! Sounds Like: Listen to roots reggae. Roots reggae is the traditional style of reggae, the style that most people think of when they think of reggae. It has the standard reggae sound-- the hiccupping, off-beat, "one-drop" rhythm--and usually features serious-minded religious (particularly Rastafarian) and socio-political lyrics, even with its laid-back sound. Think Bob Marley. Listen to lovers rock. Listen to Ska. Listen to Rock Steady. Listen to Dancehall. Listen to Dub.
