inggo 1587 is the result of spontaneous combustion. Anything touched by the Spirit is set on fire. This is what happened to seven young, musically-inclined Filipino Dominicain priests who, after hearing the call for new forms of preaching, banded together to form a single group. Although they are not professional musicians, they discovered that their songs resonate in the hearts of their listeners in a way that their words could never do. It is a clear case of synergy in motion.Founded in 1998, inggo 1587 has successfully performed in various audiences, in the Philippines and parts of Asia. It is amazing to see the enthusiastic reception given this youthful Dominicains, especially by people from various faiths and religion. This certainly proves, not only the universal appeal of music, but also the unifying power of the Holy Spirit who uses our gifts for his own good purpose. How did they get their name? Among Filipinos, a man called Domingo, often receives the nickname, inggo. This nickname is also used as a term of endearment. So, impelled by their love for Domingo de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers to which these seven Dominicans belong, they named their group, inggo 1587.They added the year 1587 because it is reminiscent of the year when the first group of Dominican missionaries from Spain arrived in the Philippines. From then on, the Dominicans became a felt presence in the country and in the whole of Asia, a presence characterized by intense evangelization through preaching and teaching the word of God.Through their songs (mostly pop, R&B and crossover), inggo 1587 hopes to communicate God's healing Word to a world wounded by division. As they share with others the fruits of their prayer, community life, and study, they hope that God's love could effectively touch others the way it has touched them.(Written by Fr.
