Making beats in a broken world

About Me

Madeline's Live Show: NobodyMUSIC NEWS: MADELINE P.Current releases include song by Joachim Garraud "Wrecking Ball" on his latest release "Invasion". Puckette's focused vocals add tangible elements to Garraud's elemental house music. Make sure to check out the French producer's myspace.
Release date of Puckette's "Madworld", pushed back due to label reconstructing... apologies to all who were looking forward to a mid-'08 release.
BIOGRAPHY BY MADELINE P. My parents used to DJ for Rice University's alternative radio station. When my sister came along they decided to leave Texas. I was born in Corvallis, Oregon. My parents eclectic tastes included a selection of music ranging from Steve Tibbits to Vangelis on Vinyl. I spent a lot of time lying on this huge red oriental rug listening... Synergy, Plastic Bertrand, Brian Eno's "taking tiger mountain by strategy", and Tuff Darts were my favorites.
Fast forward a few years I started playing saxophone and picked up a $120 guitar(I still use it today). Adolescent dreams poured into power chords, creating my first band in the 8th grade. It was punk rock with childlike vocals and one-string guitar solos. We played at a local roller rink and won the battle of the bands contest..I still love thinking about playing in a band. When that band broke up, my heart broke so I decided to try to figure out how to make music alone!
I purchased a $400 CD burner(only a 4x speed!), and ripped the only copy of Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 I knew about in Corvallis. I'm sorry Cakewalk, I owe you one! When I was fifteen I released my first album called "Phat Free", which only one copy exists that I know of. More mini albums came and went and then I moved to Los Angeles to attend California Institute of the Arts. By this time, I was getting into Steinberg's Cubase & Nuendo, which I still use today.
School meant "experimental computer music," a movement spawned from a object oriented music programming tool called MAX/MSP. My uncle Miller Puckette created MAX/MSP many years ago while living in Paris! Because of him and my math-smart parents I felt like coding was in my blood. I spent hours, days, months & years creating complicated compositions. Two masterpieces came out of this period: a collaboration called "Retour sur Terre" (return over ground) and a live max/msp song called "Remmus" which I reconstructed pieces of Aphex Twin and an original Buchla recording.
During this time a collaboration group formed called Cutetheory~ by my mates and I. A compilation from that is still available, which has a rather unique vocal track called "The Girl With Red Hair". The collaboration "Winter in May is on that track goto: http://www.myspace.com/cutetheory
