Words cannot describe how much this beautiful man means to me. He is an inspiration, an idol, and a lyrical and poetic genius. I have never come across lyrics as beautiful as Davey's. A Fire Inside's lyrics, for me, were the first ones I could really relate to, that I could just understand in a way I had never understood anything else before. He has such a loving heart, and he truly cares about his fans. He is so devoted to everything he does, from writing, to performing, to taking the time to meet with fans and sign anything from their CDs to their back. He's an individual, and has so much confidence in what he does. He's not just your typical rock star that belts out songs someone else writes for them. He puts geniune effort into what he does, and he has so much talent it's overwhelming. Whenever I listen to AFI, I'm completely oblivious to the world around me. Nothing else exists except their music. Davey has so much talent, and has a flawless personality to go along with it. He truly cares about what he does, and doesn't let anything, or anyone, influence him. Everytime I hear this man's name, I can't help but smile, for he has done so much to me. He has increased my self-confidence and made me happier with who I am. He has inspired me to keep writing poetry and music of my own. Most of all, he has given me a refuge, a sanctuary in which to hide when I just need a break from the rest of the world. His morals, and outlook on life, are extremely inspirational. He cares about the world, animals, humans, and the environment. He has taught me to believe in myself, to question everything, to find the deeper meaning of everything, and to always believe in yourself. His voice has the ability to completely change my mood, no matter how upset I am. He has changed who I am, and made me into a better person. Sometimes I think I am really addicted to his words, because sometimes I just feel the need to turn on my iPod and drift into sweet oblivion. Never have I heard of someone who has as much passion, dedication, and loyalty to what he does. He puts everything he has into his music and his writing. And still, Davey is so amazed by the positive impact he has had on the world, on countless numbers of people. Never have I seen such dedication to a band as fans have for AFI; they get lyrics and symbols from the band tattooed onto their skin, they have formed The Despair Faction, they take time to make vegan foods for Davey. It only shows the admiration and respect for someone who deserves it more than anyone else. I can honestly say he is the most beautiful man in the world, and I hope to meet him one day.
Davey was born on November 20, 1975, in Rochester, New York. His father died when he was three years old. When his mother re-married, Davey took on the surname of his step-father, 'Marchand'. He moved to Ukiah, California when he was six years old. He attended Catholic school until the eighth grade. He follows a straight-edge lifestyle, as well as a vegan diet. He is 5'10", and of Italian ancenstry. The band AFI was formed in July of 1991. The original band members were Mark Stopholese, Vic Chalker, Adam Carson, and Davey Havok. Before dropping out of college to pursue AFI full-time, Davey planned to double-major in Psychology and English at UC Berkeley.
