Jernay Hinton is a singer, songwriter, producer and musician from Baltimore,Maryland,who has been creating his world of soul since the age of 12.While growing up in one of Baltimore..s rougthest housing projects(Lafayette Courts),he consumed himself in his father..s extensive music collection everything from Classical to Country.Jernay spent all his time teaching himself to play a variety of instruments including saxophone and all brass instuments.After joining The Lombard Middle School Jazz Ensamble as drummer, under the supervision of Mr.Wendell D. Hairston,Jernay started playing on weekends with Dave Hairston and the Professional Sounds to make some cash to help out his family and prerfect his skills.Those experiences led to Jernay wanting to do music forever.While still in middle school, Jernay found his voice,helping the bands singer Sean Rice belt out a jazzy rendition of NewEdition..s Can You Stand The Rain, Jernay was hooked on singing every since.In high school Jernay would write love songs for his friends to give to their girlfriends, until one of his friends told him that he should take songwriting seriously and he did.One day while attending a rehearsal of his good friend(Rice) from middle schools singing group,Jernay was asked to join that night ,after he sang harmonies on the side line,Necessity was born that evening.As a member of Necessity, Jernay was known for singing bass/barritone sounding as if he was much older than the ripe age of 15.Necessity went on to record demos and landed a recording deal with Atlantic Records in 1990,conflicts between one of the groups members and their manager caused them to break up.Jernay didnt let that stop him, he and the remaining one member(Sean Rice) formed another group Trend,in 1992 with Kevin Johnson.Sucess was short lived,after the mysterious death of Jernay..s brother Sean,who was the groups driver at times.After a five year stooper,Jernay returned to the music scene with a new singing group Str8@cha in 1997,that went on to record one Cd that was never released.That Cd includes songs written and produced by Jernay during that period.Currently, Jernay is preparing to tour the Baltimore Neo Soul Scene to promote Hopeless Romantic,his poetry and art.After many years of writing,producing and perfecting his craft,Jernay is reving up his Engine Of Soul to share with the masses of fans that remember how he get down and new fans that will be stunned at his sensual live shows.Watch Out World,this young man is comming to bring Peace N Blessings,with his special Brand Of Soul.
