About Me

Jason Hall is a native of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State, and he currently lives in Long Lake, NY with his wife and son. Jason grew up in Newcomb, NY, also once home to the popular rock band, 28N . Born in July, 1976, Jason found his voice at a very early age (often using it at less opportune times. He accidentally started playing piano when he was 5 or 6--there was just something about the sound it made when he rolled his toy cars and trucks up and down the keys. Years rolled by, along with a few attempts at piano lessons, and Jason finally discovered he was happiest and most creative when playing his own music by ear....
Jason started writing his own songs when he was 10; he continued to play keyboard while studying percussion at Long Lake Central School, 20 minutes away from his home in Newcomb. He was active in most of the school's musical productions and plays while attending LLCS; in 1993 he was asked to join the Conference All-State Choir in Buffalo, NY. Other honors included studying vocals under the great musical director, George Bragg and performing with the world famous Gregg Smith Singers. However, it wasn't long after that Jason realized his vocal and piano stylings had suddenly "gone country...."
It wasn't until his junior and senior year that Jason found his songwriting heading into the country music genre. So many of today's great country singers had suddenly burst onto the scene at that time--Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Clint Black and Trisha Yearwood...it was hard to resist the new and exciting sound that came from these "new country" stars, and that sound was the biggest influence on Jason's style to date....
Jason began attending Potsdam State College in 1994, where he spent much of his time writing songs in Economics or Human Origins classes. He also rediscovered his love of the theater, especially acting, and could be seen performing in a number of one-act and 10-minute plays. Jason took time off at the end of his sophmore year to focus on his songwriting and "production skills," but returned several years later to earn a degree in Journalism....
Not long after, Jason married Micaela, who he'd attended highschool with but never talked to. They had just happened to meet at a party one night, and before they knew it, she was off to Potsdam with Jason while he finished up his Journalism degree. After graduation, the two of them moved to Queensbury, NY where he took a management position in retail services. Three years passed and Jason finally learned he was to be a father for the first time....
It was also at this point that he decided he should visit Nashville for the first time. While down there, Jason tried out for the USA Network's NASVHILLE STAR, and he and Micaela took in everything they could in a two day visit. He didn't make it on the show, but quickly realized he'd like to return to Nashville one day to take his shot at the music business as a singer/songwriter--and following his own map....
Two of Jason's songs have already received honorable mentions in national songwriting contests--"It Don't Take Magic" from the NASHVILLE SONG SERVICE and "Mountains Out of Memories" from the JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST. Plus, after the mention for "Magic," the NSS inquired about making a professional demo for "Mountains." Jason agreed, and the demo was produced, but with a female demo singer in Nashville providing the vocals. Upon listening to that demo, Jason realized that even though it was a good recording, he might like to try producing his own demos right at home. So with a small multi-track recorder, a computer and his keyboard, that's exactly what Jason has done. Good thing, too, because now he's able to share his music with all of his friends on MYSPACE and everybody else he continues to meet on the "little screen...."
So now it's up to everyone reading this to help Jason decide which direction his music should go in. He still loves country music, but has found himself heading down alternate routes--rock, folk-rock, celtic and even a bit of blues and jazz. Jason actually strives to find a way to combine it all into something of his own sound--no boundaries. Jason has great respect for all artists in any genre, especially all of the songwriters--nothing else would follow without their pens & pencils, paper & computers, but most importantly their thoughts, souls and shared life experiences. With this said, Jason hopes that for now you simply share his journey of musical self-discovery and just keep on listening! ~2008~
Two Ends To Every Road

Maybe tonight
My heart is a little restless
'Cause I know that you
Are gonna chase after those dreams
No I don't know
What you'll find at every turn
Never travel
Without lessons you have learned
You'll be alright
You're gonna fly
You know exactly where you're comin' from
I hope you follow the sound of your own drum
I don't know where you're bound
But I know
I know that there're two ends two every road
Where you come from
And where you go
You have your scale
And a handful of options
Left unsettled in your mind
And it's time to weigh them out
But don't go wasting time
Trying to plan how you oughta spend it
'Cause if we never saw another day
What would it matter anyhow
It's alright
You're gonna fly
You know exactly where you're comin' from
I know you'll follow the sound of your own drum
I don't know where you're bound
But I know
I know that there're two ends two every road
Where you're comin' from
And where you go
So where you comin' from....
So I guess you're heading out
Down the same road from your yesterdays
It's still the same old blacktop
But you're lookin' at a different side
I know how badly
You wanna break out of the past
But just know the road that helps you leave
Is the one that can bring you back
So it's alright
You're gonna fly
I know exactly where you're comin' from
I also followed the sound of my own drum
I don't know where you're bound
But I know
I know that there're two ends to every road
Where you're comin' from
and where you go
Just don't be afraid to come back home
Yeah I know
You don't have to tell me
Baby I know
You're gonna keep on
keep on
keep on travelin'....
Keep on
keep on
keep on travelin'....
Keep on
keep on
keep on travelin'....
Mind the roads....
Where you're comin' from
Where you go....

Some Of A Million Questions

When you count the rings of your life
Do you notice how old you’ve gotten
Or how young you still are
When you’ve walked a thousand miles
Do you feel that you’re still not even close
Or that you’ve gone too far
Are you rushing to try to get ahead
Or do you spend just a little too much time
In your bed
Do you ever wish you could be famous
Or that you could just be left alone
Be unknown....

Do you one day think you’ve finally got it all
Then on another day wish
That you had so much more
Do you think the sand reaches for the ocean
Or that the ocean rolls in to greet the shore
Oh and do you ever question the matter
Or say it don’t matter
And just enjoy the ride
Do you ever hope to find true love
Or wait and see if love will find you first
Are you charmed
Are you cursed....

Do you think you’re the first to ever wonder
‘Bout these questions I ponder
Or do you feel that you could never
Have an original thought
Do you worry ‘bout what you don’t have
Or do you fear you’ll lose everything you’ve got
Well let me tell you
You’re not alone....

Do you stop to help a stranger
Or do you keep your distance
Thus remaining the stranger yourself
Do you ever pull down volumes of your past
From time to time
Or just let them gather dust upon those shelves
Do you ever seek the meaning of your life
Or do you think it all exists in just being alive
Oh and do you ever have any regrets
Or do simply try to just forget
Try to forget....

Do you think this world has gone crazy
Or do you think that maybe
Everybody just has something to prove
Do you think we exist for a reason
Or that human love’s creation
Put you here without a chance to choose
Are these questions too hard for you to face
Or can you just embrace them
with the hope they hold some truth
Oh and do you even care about this song
Or do you wish that I would
Pack it up and move on
Guess I’ll be moving on

I didn’t mean to be a bother
I just thought I’d ask another
Just to think a moment
What’s to be will be
These were just some of a million questions
I couldn’t help asking
And to tell you the truth
I was asking me....

Don't Fall Awake

Not so long ago
In a place no further away
Than my heart's hidden dreams
You were merely in scenes
From a film not yet made

Then you came along
And my longing was gone
I've watched you grow
Alongside a love like none I have known

I can see you now
The day your feet first met the ground
So steady and strong
It didn't take long
I was happy and sad
Every laugh and cry
Every scar, story and sigh
Are your own, take pride
You were meant to fly

Don't fall awake
Always remember
I'm with you wherever you are
Don't fall awake
Your soul may tire
But don't cover your heart
It knows the right answer
It'll be your best guide
When the world tries to lead you astray
Don't fall awake
Don't fall awake

Don't fall awake
Keep your eyes open
The daylight will sometimes be dark
Don't fall awake
Lessons are long and regrets can be hard
You just take what you're given
Then give more than that
And seek out the blue in the gray
Don't fall awake
Don't fall awake

Don't fall awake....

Don't fall awake
Always remember
I'm with you wherever you are
Don't fall awake
Your soul may tire
But don't cover your heart

Don't fall awake
See the true colors
array from the light through your tears
Don't fall awake
Be scared
But don't ever run from your fears
'Cause it's okay to crawl
When you know where you stand
So just love
That's all that it takes
Don't fall awake
Don't fall awake

Don't fall awake....
