Theatre and music have always fascinated Berenice van Leer. Being passionate about both,
she has been active in both fields from a young age.
Coming from a family of musicians, she started playing classical violin when she was only four
years old. Always surrounded by different kinds off music styles she decided to develope and
explore her own skills professionally by studying jazz at the Academy of Music in Amsterdam.
Nowadays she is active as a freelance-vocalist and actrice. She sings in a large variety of
musical formations, ranging from commercial/dance acts to soul/funk to jazz/fusion. She
improvises with a whole lot of soul using her melodious lyrics and has worked with many
(inter-) national DJ's.
Berenice can improvise her melody and lyrics with the use of all kinds of music styles. She is
not just a plain MC or host; instead she always manages to create a unique atmosphere
during the whole night by interacting with the crowd and the DJ's.
She is one of the main singers of Wicked Jazz Sounds. This Amsterdam based organization,
where jazz meets dance, brings an eclectic mix combining the warmth and essence of jazz and
energy of modern dance music. Together with live musicians and DJ's, she funks up the
evening and makes the crowd go wild, creating musical madness and magic.
Berenice has performed at some of the most renowned Dutch nightclubs such as Paradiso,
Melkweg, Panama, Hotel Arena, Tivoli, Winkel van Sinkel and many more venues and
festivals such as IDFA, Supernatural, Indian Summer, Extrema Outdoor, Solar, Mysteryland,
The Hague Jazz, Eurosonic/Noorderslag and more....
Together with Renske Taminiau and Paul van Kessel she sings with the brand new Wicked
Jazz Sounds Band! Inspired by the steamy weekly Wicked Jazz Sounds club nights, the
musicians and singers got together in the studio and composed some grooves of their own! The
best tracks made it to an album. The album, in true Wicked Jazz Sounds fashion, ranges from
jazz to hiphop to funk to house to breakbeat to samba to wherever the musical flow will
take you.
The first studio album will be released in March, but the band is already out there showcasing
their material.
