The Naira Project was born from a little-known duo from Saxilby, Lincoln. Comprising of Steve Cowan and Steve Robinson, and originally going under the name of SandS, one e.p. was recorded for a demo competition. Containing 4 tracks of laid-back folk, the e.p. remains unreleased to the general public for now.
Come 2007, and a name change, and The Naira Project released its debut single, for free download, 'The Kobo Sessions' with strong reviews. This was a solo project of Steve Cowan's at this point.
2008 saw the addition of ICE to the ranks. ICE also sang and played bass in FearOfHatred with Steve and has added a much needed injection of songwriting and production skills. August 2008 also saw the release of the second single 'Standing at the Edge of Despair'. Grander in scale than the debut, it charts a path of insular musings on life and loneliness. In the latter stages of 2008, three more members were recruited (Gregg, Rob, and Sacha). In early 2009, Tony joined us as drummer, completing the line-up.
We are currently writing new material for our debut album, which we're recording in April 2009 onwards. Keep an eye on the blogs for updates.
