About Me

The story so far........................................When I decided to start Spool Studios I asked long-time friend Roger Davis ( A.C.M ,Toby Jepson, Marshall Law ) to join me in deciding on the studio’s equipment and design. We have both recorded in many different studios and wanted to create an informal and relaxed atmosphere for artists to perform in. The studio combines the best of analogue and the digital recording world providing professional results at a competitive price. The first commercial release from Spool was Toby Jepsons Refresh EP. Roger has known Toby for many years, not only as bass player in his band but also writing and producing together on many projects. The experience was not only an eye opener on how to produce a professional product but also gave me the incentive to go on to be involved in more projects/releases. With the Refresh EP ready to be released, Toby asked me to consider being involved in the up-coming tour as Guitar Tech, I agreed and off I went on tour and had a great time with all the guys in the band, and meeting the legend that is Mole. I take fond memories and friendship from the experience. Over the past couple of years I have worked with local band Acacia recording, mixing and producing their debut CD - Slave To The Game. Also another local band and close friends Headspeed with their CD - Blueprint For Disaster, helping them secure a deal with Copro Records to release the CD worldwide. In 2004 I was involved with the recording and editing on the Phenomena album Psycho-Fantasy, working with Producer Tom Galley and recording Mel Galley (Whitesnake,) Lee Small ( Shy ) J.J Marsh ( Glen Hughs ) Joy Strachen ( Quill ) Matt Moreton ( Cloven Hoof ) and Andy Shortland. The project ended up at Brittania Row Studios in London which was a great experience for me to watch and learn from engineer Jon Jacobs and to get behind there fantastic Neve 51 series desk and set up the song sessions I had prepared. Thanks to Lynch Radinsky (Impulse), Tom Brown and all involved in that project.Producing Pete Boot ( Budgie,f.y.h.w.r ) The Battle Of My Mind album was an unusual project , guests came in and jammed together with Pete and then we edited all the sessions to get the songs together as well as Pete’s poems into a finished product. Pete works hard to put a charity concert together each year to raise funds for Parkinson’s disease and other worthy causes which I help him out with for a pint or two! I am continuing to work with local bands, Headspeed on their latest CD - Reborn, Acacia mixing Remind Me To Forget for the film ‘Jonny Postal’, recent bands to visit Spool are local artists Galleon Ryder’s and The Institute. To be continued...........................................
