I was born in Lambeth, South London and grew up with a love for music from as early as I can remember. I became an avid record collector and would pre-order Beatles singles without hearing them first, as in those days radio stations never played them before their actual date of release. I bought my first guitar aged 15 and would madly strum away (It took me two years to realise that I was playing it upside down! ) I then sadly came to the conclusion that I would never be the Rudolph Nureyev of the fretboard. Nevertheless songwriting and vocal warbling was still something that I could aspire to and I was fortunate enough to be introduced, by a mutual friend to Derek Adams cousin of acclaimed Elton John lyricist Gary Osborne - who was related by marriage to Small Faces, Faces and ex Who drummer Kenney Jones.
Kenney was a guy who was incredibly generous with his encouragement and positivity and he kindly allowed Derek and myself to familiarize ourselves with his studio and recording facilities, spending countless hours wading through equipment manuals. During this period I signed a publishing deal with The Carlin Music Corporation and I went on to achieve oblivion (in my own right) by being the most least successful songwriter ever signed to the label.
After that I worked in various professions that are probably too dull to mention with the possible exceptions of lion tamer, hand-grenade juggler and high-wire trapeze artist.
After a suitable venue became available I took it upon myself to (have a go) and open an acoustic-based club in the West-end of London called The Unplugged Club during a period when the likes of the brilliant singer-songwriter's David Gray, Gordon Haskell and Tom Baxter - who is enjoying considerable success currently, were not to be missed artists performing at venues like mine. Jason Feddy and Rob Reynolds were also on the rosta providing some fantastic and memorable nights. I continue to write and record in my studio and I also provide music and sound effects for several independent theatre companies as well as jingles for radio stations.I hope you enjoy these tunes, they have been written over many beers and the collaborations with the likes of Nick Sharples and Derek Adams have always been a great guzzle and a copious slurp. I am currently working with Sam Dobson on The Sourpuss Project which is producing some exciting results, follow the link in the friends list below to check out our latest offerings.
There are still many more songs (old and new) that I will endevour to make available on this page.
Let your ears be the ultimate judge. But then again if you suffer from tinnitus...... The production may not be quite as good as you might think.......Keep on taking the milk of human kindness tablets everyone. All the best...Robert Greig
