Mill Lane

About Me

Mill Lane Mk1, known then as 'The Amateur thinks" was born in late 2005, consisting of three members; Olly Murphy, Andy Bingham, and Ben Coleby, however the band was largely limited to covers of Jimi Hendrix numbers. After the demise of Coleby, Andy and Olly continued to play in and around school with the help of Chris Trenchard, and Auzzi Thomson, under the name Auzzi T and the Uptown Three. The four played a range of small private party gigs up and down the country from London to Leicester. It was later on in the summer that the boys were joined by Will Murphy, younger brother of Olly, on bass, as jamming became fresher. The two had been playing together since the days of District Nurse in 2003, alongside Noah Kelly.Cover versions were still the basis of the band's material, however this allowed them to play together and form get to know each other musically. In 2007 Olly, Will, Auzzi, keyboard player James Bailey, and saxophonist Matt Underhill took a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe festival, and cut their performance teeth as buskers on the Royal Mile. The bands own song’s then started to emerge through band practices and jams during 2008, and again during the recent jams of 2009, with each member of the band contributing to lyrics and musical ideas and innovations. The band have a small fane base of legends.
