The Heaton Brothers Band

About Me

Over the past two years, The Heaton Brothers Band have evolved into an outstanding band. They have went from having no experience at all in the Country music/ club world, to playing at well known clubs and other venues. The Heaton Brothers Band is made up of four experienced, and dedicated men. John Heaton is the bass guitar player and oldest of the Heaton brothers. His musical roots go all the way back to the age of 6 when he started playing rhythm guitar for a local gospel band called The Wilcox Family. He eventually took up the bass guitar and stayed dedicated to this band until the age of 18. It was then he left for a new gospel group called the Sounds of Glory. John's little brother, Judd, was 12 years old at this time. He was just now learning how to play the guitar. But the Sounds of Glory decided to let him get his feet wet in a band. So from then on, the brothers have shared the stage night after night. After two years with the Sounds of Glory, John and Judd decided to split and form their own band, Justified. Justified saw chances of success come and go. They were able to land a professional record deal with Lamp Records in 2005. They released two songs to radio nationally, but their modern style just didn't seem to fit in anywhere. So in 2007, Justified ended its six year journey. With music still burning inside them, John and Judd decided to take their music to a whole new genre... Country! They knew of only one person who would be able to introduce them to this new world. Terry Waters had been a long time friend of the Heaton brothers, and a well respected steel guitar player in the community. Waters had taken off from music for a few years so he could watch his kids in school activities, something he was not able to do on the road every night. With his kids now growing up, he was ready to hit the scene again. And so began the endless nights of practicing. The only problem was, after a couple of failed attempts, they were without a drummer. Roy Bell had just gotten out of a band when he got a call from John. He said he would be glad to come try out. And since that day, has been all the Heaton brothers could ask for. The full band has now been together for two years. Every weekend is a different club, a different party, and a different crowd. They always invite the chance to play to new faces.

My Interests

Music:

Member Since: 28/01/2008
Band Members: Judd Heaton--Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar; John Heaton--Vocals, Bass Guitar; Terry Waters--BG Vocals, Steel Guitar; Roy Bell--Drums, Percussion;
Influences: The Heaton Brothers Band was influenced by alot of artists. For the most part we really get our kicks from the '90's. Artists Like: Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Boy Howdy, Mcbride and the Ride, Little Texas, Toby Keith, David Lee Murphy, Doug Stone... as well as classic artists like: Merle Haggard, George Jones, Hank Williams Sr., Hank Williams Jr., Charlie Pride, David Allen Coe... As Well as Rock artists like: Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Anybody that plays the blues ( B.B. King, Jonny Lang, etc...) To shorten it up a bit... any music that was and is great, influences every aspect of our music.
Sounds Like: Although many of the songs we do will sound fimiliar, we don't really try to sound like anybody. If we take an older song and redo it, we don't want it to sound like it came from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or even 90's. We like to give the songs that Heaton Brother touch and bring them into the 21st Century so to say. We like to make them sound as modern as they can without sounding like this "POP" Country Crap. Don't get us wrong though. We're not trying to outdo anybody. No song ever sounds better than the original.
