About Me

On September 6, 1961 Paul Gamst was born in Tonsenhagen, a district of Oslo. Later he assumed his mother's maiden name. Since he was young he has been interested in music. So he founded the band "The Bridges" with some friends and recorded a self-paid album called "Fakkeltog". But to be real successfull he moved with his friend Magne Furuholmen and their new singer Morten Harket to London. It took them three years to become a overnight-success: in 1985 they had their first number-one-hit "Take On Me" - supported by a pioneering music-clip. Five more albums and a uncountable number of worldwide hits followed. A-ha also recorded the title-track for the James-Bond-movie "The living daylights" and the song for the Paralympics 1994 in Lillehammer. In Rio they broke the attendence record at Maracana stadium with an audience of 195,000 ! Paul is the guitarist and main songwriter of a-ha, the most successful band of the 80's. Once the "Q Magazine" named him as one of the best unknown lyricists of his generation. With his wife Lauren he produced three splendid CDs as the band Savoy (1995: Mary is coming, 1997: Lackluster me, 1999: Mountains of Time). In 1999 they produced their next success: son Augusti. One year before, a-ha performed "Summer Moved On" live at the Nobel-Peace-Price-Concert. After this they decided to record a new album and 2000 a-ha had the comeback of the year followed by a sold-out tour. In 2001 Savoy released their 4th album 'Reasons to stay indoors' which was again a big success in Norway. The a-ha album 'Lifelines' was released in 2002. The following tour is documented in a-ha's first official live-album 'How can I sleep with your voice in my head' that was released in March 2003. On August 30, 2004 Savoy has released their fifth album... simply called 'Savoy' through their own label 'Eleventeen Records'. The song 'Whalebone' is the main theme of the Norwegian movie 'Hawaii, Oslo' by Erik Poppe. In 2004 the compilation 'The singles 1984-2004' was released... the last CD with WEA. After that a-ha changed the record-label and were signed by Universal. 'Analogue' was released in 2005. The title-track entered the UK-charts on #10 - a new hit in the UK after such a long time. They played several concerts around the world... e.g. Dakar (Senegal), New York (USA).
