Sophie Woods

Sophie grew up in the woods where she lived with her father in a forest guard house. Therefore she was soon called Sophie Woods.
As a young girl she had a horse of her own, was a girl scout, did gymnastics, took dance lessons etc. but she loved music with all her heart and soul. She took lessons in various musical instruments, e.g. the recorder, the piano, and drums and it did not last long before she also started to sing. However, apart from a school choir it was not really possible to take singing lessons in the area and since she was not a very good singer she could not be part of the choir. But Sophie did not care. Instead she made her own rock band at the age of only 15. She wrote a handful of songs herself which they played and supplemented with traditional cover songs. It was a pure girl band called FLAX. They gave concerts in the local environment and it did not take long before Sophie joined other bands in the area as well. But it was not enough.
Sophie also set out to take an active part in developing the musical environment in the neighbourhood, building practice rooms, organising concerts and an amateur festival with no less than 400 visitors.
When Sophie turned 18, she was not slow to move to Aarhus, which was the rendezvous of the musical environment at that time, with Tina Dickow, Thomas Helmig, Inside the Whale etc. Once again she challenged the place by working for the underground music in Fajabefa-Aarhus and Rosa, the Danish Rock Council, and she actually took part in organising some of the very first Spot festivals. Sophie was still writing her own songs and also chose to sing in a funk band that was among the finalists in the Danish rock championship of that time.

After 4 years she needed some new challenges and moved to Copenhagen. Together with a musical friend she started one of the first forums for musicians on the Internet which they later resold.
Sophie concurrently worked on a new project, SaKuRa, together with a producer and a guitarist. In this connection, she wrote in Danish supported by pop rhythms. However, she still wrote her songs in English which were of a more low-key nature.

She worked as a booker and was responsible for productions at the booking agency Offbeat in Copenhagen. She worked with artists such as Camille Jones, Maya Albana, Love Julie and others and was headhunted for a job as a music consultant for the largest musical society and umbrella organisation of the City of Copenhagen.
But then enough was enough. She had reached a point where she could no longer keep her songs within herself and decided to leave the grass roots work and do something for her own musical career.
Therefore she put a band together and recorded a demo and sent it to Lars Skjærbæk who agreed to be producer on the project right away. They recorded an album together in the Medley Studio with 10 of Sophie's songs. At the same time an opportunity arose in the USA and so Sophie travelled to the USA to record parts of the album over there. In the spring of 2009 she released an EP from the album, mixed and mastered by the legendary Icelandic-American sound designer S. Husky Höskulds whose CV includes names such as Tom Waits, Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann and many more. The EP only comes in a digital version and contains 4 songs.
In the autumn of 2009 the entire album will be released in which connection there will also be a tour which offers an experienced team of live musicians. Sophie Woods on vocals, Anders Ramhede (also plays in Magtens Korridorer among others) on drums, Lars Andresen (e.g. Anne-Dorte Michelsen) ..s, René Hansen on bass, Steffen Pedersen (e.g. Louise Preisler and previously Lisa Vegas) on guitars.
