Damian James Garza was born December 31, 1985 in Portales, New Mexico. He was just the cutest baby.He had a smile the day he was born. That was the same smile that captured your heart and that is the same smile that is so hard living without. We moved to Midland in 1998 then moved to Odessa, TX in 2001. Damian attended Odessa High and Zion Christian School. Damian was a cadet in the JR. ROTC at OHS, from 2001 to February 2004. Damian joined the Army in April 2004. Damian served as an AIRBORNE RANGER in the 75th 3rd BATTALION REGIMENT based in FORT BENNING, GA. Damian accomplished graduating from Basic Training, Airborne, and the Ranger indocumentary program “RIP†in seven months then was deployed to Afghanistan in November 2004 and again in July 2005. August 4, 2005 Damian and a fellow Ranger PFC John Henderson died, after their humvee slid into the Kunar River North East of Jalalabad in Afghanistan. Damian was awarded the GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM EXPEDITIONARY AWARD MEDAL, ARMY SERVICE RIBBON, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, PARACHUTISTS BADGE, ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL , and the AFGHANISTAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL./
