You know that saying, "it is better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not?" I feel that it best describes the foundation for true friendship.
My closest friends know almost everything there is to know about me, and thus are more able to hate or love me. They know how deep the ocean is, that the streams of my life flow into; the depths to which I am willing to go to, in order to build and keep a friendship's strength.
Whether my trust was gained by fighting together in combat overseas, or by being by each other's side through the often painful affairs of the heart at home, my friends come from all walks of life, and in all shapes, colors, sizes, and ages.
To some, my overabundant optimism might present an impression of naïveté; to others, it presents an opportunity to gain altitude when their spirits need uplifting. And while my expressions of gratitude and appreciation may at times seem superfluous and almost insincere, I will never allow a word of thanks to go unspoken when I am genuinely caught off guard by a kind gesture or compliment.
My most important goal in life is to somehow make a difference in our world that all of the creatures (whether in the office or flying over the Pacific, I am constantly being reminded that the Earth is shared with me by other non-human inhabitants) within it can either benefit from or appreciate, today and for generations to come.
Whether this happens before or after my passing; whether I am privileged enough to know, while I am here, that I have somehow achieved my life goal or not, is not nearly as important to me as the reality of its accomplishment.
Even with my lofty goals, I still manage to have an awesome sense of humor (ask my colleagues, whose genus I am still trying to determine)! I'm the type of guy that doesn't give up easily. A little smile, a silly grin; a crazy laugh or drool hanging by the chin; it's all worth the while to make someone's day a little brighter, no matter the time, or effort that it takes. Laughter and story-telling is always the best medicine. Get to know me! I'm easy(going) like that.
