John Mitchell and Sofie Jonsson

About Me

John and Sofie met through music and have shared music and played music together since 2005. Sofie came from a background of playing fiddle tunes, mostly Scottish and Swedish, and John was a singer songwriter who had also played a lot of ceilidh dances. One thing they had in common was a burning interest in various American music styles, mainly bluegrass and country. Since 2005, they have shared musical influences and added various ingredients to their music making, such as blues, Swedish folk songs, and American old-time sounds. The result is a wide mix of musical styles: Scottish, Irish, Swedish, and Cape Breton fiddle tunes, John's own songs, bluegrass, Swedish traditional songs, blues, country, and Scottish and Irish traditional songs. So much music, so little time... The journey has just begun!
About the songs on our MySpace page:
TIBBIE FOWLER is a traditional Scottish song, here in John's version.
ADIEU MY LOVELY NANCY is a traditional song and one of John's favourites to sing.
WESTERN HIGHWAY was written by Gerry O'Byrne from Ireland.
TAKE ME OUT DRINKING TONIGHT was written by Michael Marra and is an old favourite of John's. Here he is joined by the talented Mr Nygårds from Lima (Lima in Sweden, that is!).
This version of GÄRDEBYLÅTEN followed by LIZA JANE was recorded live at Cozzy's Comedy Club in Newport News, Virginia.
John wrote FROM GLEN TO GLEN in 2004 while he was living in Virginia.
THE SONG OF THE FIRTH is John's song. Bert Deivert plays the bouzouki on this recording.
The JOHN AND SOFIE SAMPLER is a pick'n'mix of music from different times and places. Additional vocals by Cindy Warner.
SUBTERRANEAN HOMESICK BLUES is a Bob Dylan song that we really like.
