The Peel Club

About Me

The Peel Club is a joint promotion by Steve Smither & Kevin Wilson at Club85 in Hitchin and occasionally at The Arena Tavern in Letchworth.
We aim to appeal to a wide musical taste across all genres & mix the best of local with national acts.
The first show took place in February 2008 and acts who have played for us include Sergeant, Tellison, Tubelord, The J B Conspiracy, The Computers, The Xcerts, Hearts Under Fire (RIP), The Mono Effect, Scholars, Educted Animals & Brontide.
Here's what a couple of our guests have said about us
TubeLog - Bitchin’ Hitchin
But yeah, in all seriousity, Club 85 is the most ridiculously good venue i've seen in a very very long time. Its like a festival stage, decked out with psychadelic backdrops, and as i was informed by the owner, Orbitals stage lights. A P.A. that beats pretty much every venue i've been to. A HUGE stage. Pretty Fricking Cool.
And all in the middle of a town with an estimated population of 30,600. Deep.
Anyway, cocks and balls. The gig was cool. even though i snapped a string. AGAIN. Seriously, i must have hands made of knives, balls of steel and a head shaped like a magnet. Joe did some epic screams, and we sold some E.P's.
Love and Spooge to Steve, the staff at Club 85, Kilto Take and Model Horror, and just all of that shiez.
TELLISON Day 17 ~ AUGUST 6th - Club 85, HITCHIN
Oh this venue is huge. Club 85 is a very strange place. But it is also very wonderful. From the outside it looks like a fairly unvelcomingg sports bar. Inside it looks very different. I think Sean Tubelord's blog explains it better than I can.
During the day some of us ate bagels and watched films and some of us went ona 6 mile walk into Hitchin town centre through fields and past a flour factory.
We set up on the biggest stage of the tour and feel like we've finally got to stadium rock and then we go for a BBQ at lovely Kev's house. Which is just what everyone needs. Kev (one of the two promoters along with Steve) gives us wines and meats and condiments and that is pretty much all that we, as a band, desire.
So we're very happy by the time we go back to the venue, find our agent Ross Morrison waiting for us, and spend the next few hours talking and drinking lovely cold beers in the rain.
The show goes great, the big stage and good sound mean it'd be hard not to have a good gig here.
