Primitive-Modern Art, Engineered Canvas, Sculpted Wood Paintings

James Myres, introduces new art forms self-described as Primitive-Modern/Engineered Canvas/Sculpted Wood Paintings. I have come up with a new concept which incorporates the dimensionalizing of the subject matter and/or the canvas in order to give the art work a 3-D effect within a painting format. This process incorporates the design into a layout which breaks down the individual pieces of a picture, much like a stain glass patterning. Using this process, each individual piece can be meticulously sculpted, textured, and/or pigmented. Great details can be accomplished and combined for the final layout. The results are amazing.
In addition to this new art form, I have created a new paint technique using pigmented laquers. Unlike oils or acrylics, laquers do not layer, they actually meld onto one another. This allows control of the opacity to remain fairly high and creates some unique results. I also sometimes employ the use of a decoupage papered canvas and recently a modified gesso that is applied to the wood.
Within these new art forms I have created numerous styles inside that are unorthodox to any native culture but are merely free expression. I continue to experiment and feel there is many more innovations to come.
I have begun to organize the pieces into relative classifications. There is overlap of ideals, so you may see potential crossover potential into other groupings. The two main categories of form are "Sculpting of the Subject Matter" and "Sculpting of the Canvas". Each has its own influence on the presentation to the viewer. I seem to be more recently inclined to the latter process, as it lends itself to giving a subtle or sublime texture and characteristic to the subject matter. As the former seems to be artisan and simply outlines and portrays the subject matter. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look and feel free to forward your critiques and comments.
