i always find it hard to define what my interests are, mainly because my interests are fairly varied and change in relative importance in my life. I often have one main passionate interest that consumes a lot of my time and then have other interests that surface around that and feed into it. First, going back like 10 years, it was cooking...then Ancient Egypt...then Astronomy...and now the Environment. The others before the environment have passed to some degree into obscurity but the environment is here to stay, its what I study at university. I guess its just a focus of my lasting interest in science...yes, im a science geek, whatever. Pretty much anything science interests me (just yesterday i was watching a doco on the construction of oil rigs and how they keep them stable hahaha). I am definitely still interested in my past passionate interests, anything about them still catches my eye (cooking to a lesser degree since i work in restaurants atm and i get enough from there).
Im not sure if it qualifies as an "interest" but i'll put it anyway, my friends. I guess i'm putting it here because i look for something particularly interesting in people to be my friends...something about them that makes me think, makes me smile or laugh, just something special. I also draw a great deal of strength from my friends, particularly those who havent had "the simple life" so to speak, like myself. Life isnt all hugs and puppies, i've been to dark places in my life and had dark times. Looking back I dont regret them, Im not happy that they happened of course, but they made me who i am today and i love who i am today (mostly ;) so Im not going to complain about that. I know that those experiences made me stronger, I believe I am a very strong person in most regards. I go after what I want and work hard for it. Ive travelled the world by myself and seen incredible things. Im willing to put myself on the line, take the risk, face the fear. When friends have had similar life changing experiences it makes them all the more interesting and they become a part of my sources of strength, only if they are a true friend.
oh! almost forgot, travel! travel is a major interest of mine. I love to travel, I'll go almost anywhere anytime if i can. I've already been a lot of places, mainly in Europe, and I've been living in Iceland for 15 months now (going home to Australia soon though) and I've absolutely loved it here. I've even managed to work in some travel on the way home too, and thinking about places i can go when i actually get home. So its pretty safe to say i have the travel bug.
