About Me

Hi.

I've recently settled in Halifax NS, Canada, after a multitude of adventures (and misadventures) throughout Canada and most of New Zealand. One of the reasons I moved here was to focus a little more on music and get my arse kicked around by the astonishing amount of talent out here. I've been gradually finding others to jam/collaborate with for playing, writing, arranging and recording. I play bass (electric and stand-up) acoustic guitar (6+12), mandolin, harmonica, tin whistles, a bewildering assortment of percussion instruments (cajon, bodhran, junk kit, bucket, udu, typewriter case) and sing lead and harmony. Check out my site for more details.

I'm dabbling in the singer-songwriter arena a bit but find playing the guitar all by myself wears a little thin after a while, so I like to keep busy with other projects. I sit in with the John Dalton (folk and blues with a laid back world music roots feel) from time to time and am rehearsing for shows in June and beyond with "Men With Issues (straight up pub tunes)." I really prefer the collective energy of playing with other people which allows me to do some arranging and sing harmony which are easily my favorite things to do.

I've been hosting the Sunday night open mic at .. Rogue's Roost for the past couple of years. Currently RJ Donovan is covering it for me, as I'm hosting the open mic on Thursdays at the Rock Bottom Brew Pub and I'm crazy busy at my day job. Hope you Haligonians can make it down sometime.

I've also been learning lots about recording and plan to do a bit of demo recording for some friends of mine. (I like to keep busy)

Lately I've been focusing a lot on mixing live sound, so if you need a tech, let me know and we can discuss compatibility...

Best of luck to all and thanks for dropping by.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Just me.
Influences: Everything I've seen, heard, felt and read I suppose. I'm one of those strange people who likes almost all music. Grew up in the church choir; with a Mom on classical and Roger Whitaker; a Dad on old-time country and jazz; brothers on the Eagles, Jim Croce and Bob Seger; a sister on the Violent Femmes and Air Supply (?!?). I listened to Billy Joel, Van Halen, Oldies and ACDC in high school, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Great Big Sea, The Rheostatics, Leslie Spit Trio, The Rhinos, The Hopping Penguins, King Apparatus, The Skydiggers, Parliament, Me Mom & Morgentaller, The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Spirit of the West in college (I went three years and never once listened to the radio...except the CBC). It's around that time I was introduced to Stan Rogers, John Prine, Elvis Costello, Steve Goodman, Tom Waits. When I heard those guys I had to learn guitar. Since then I've... Oh Jeez, I gotta stop for now.
Sounds Like: acoustified funk, easy going pop, a late night kitchen jam.
