Also, both my grandparents on my mothers side passed away before I was even born - I stare at their photos and wonder what their face looked like when someone / something made them laugh or cry or get angry or feel passion or feel hope etc. but I will never know. It awes me that in those black and white photos are my mothers parents - seemingly like they lived a thousand years ago but really, it wasn't too long ago that they had little ones like me around the house :) I pray I know my grandchildren... :)
I have a sick love for 80's music. Wierd. I also love Christian music - my station is 104.7 on the radio or 90.1. I love to worship God through praise music. Nothing is better than raising my hands to Jesus in praise at church and seeing everyone around me doing the same - it is the best... reminds of what heaven will be like.

POETRY CORNER
WHEN I WAS WITH CHILD
When I was with child
belly warmed
I would sleep
swayed gracefully as
mountain pose stood strong like black afro woman,
towering over,
tilting to protect
the movement of limbs swinging -
reaching - feeling - touching -
holding - loving -
seeking
desiring to touch your fingertips,
kiss your toes
meet your gaze.
When I was with child
my breasts leaked
belly encompassed life, God's creation.
Soaring through treetops
spreading arms wide welcoming
motherhood.
when I was with child
tears fragile flew down my pink face
and I pushed my forehead to the floor
bent, curled over - arms
child - pose
worshipping God for life inside my belly
wept, I wept in gratefulness
when I was with child
hands that pressed outwards
her hands touching mine...
COMFORT
Lime green waltz falls like
raindrops on a backdrop of
moonlit windows,
and I scream
"What is the view like from the top?"
Where did my silk negligee go? Has it fallen
into the crowds of unquiet, discomfort
streets full of strangers who drink coffee and
whiten their teeth so they look pretty? Do I look
pretty?
I am irish so blood red hair
falls against pink skin, fragile like my words.
Don't be convinced I am tiny or afraid -
I'm not damaged - even after July's suctioning from my life - I emerged, defiantly.
Lover,
our sex translates our love into tastes and touches,
lingering and
I stay awake past you to
pray
to address the madness crawling in my mind
all I see are colors and patterns of brown and lime green,
blue and cream squares, triangles, entangled
my heart pounds,
then you roll towards me and drape your arm
over me, pull me close and
I fall asleep to the sound of your heart beating...
you and I dancing the waltz beneath my eyelids.
APPLE
I didn't choose to eat the apple
that opened my eyes and made me aware
of deaths sentence
and our lack of freedom.
No matter how much we protest, or seek
another answer
no matter what remedy they sell us today,
there is no other way -
we are all prisoners
fooled if we think we are all free
for I didn't choose the apple
instead the apple chose me.
MISS YOU
My sorrows unravel
through glass tears
that melt my eyes
and burn my soul.
Pleading, bleeding
raw in my nakedness
as I scratch my head and
tilt forward my back,
crouched like and old lady
who smiles and waters the garden.
My knees hit the ground
my hands sift through
the dirt, fresh
from your burial.
I lay sprawled out and I
feel my heart pounding and I
retreat in silence
begging to feel your hands
to hear your heart beat
to see your eyes sparkle,
to laugh in your laughter
and I open my eyes to prairies of
rocks with names on them and flowers
sweetly standing proud
and candles lit
trees blowing in the wind.
beneath these grounds, lays your body
the one I spoke to you through and I weep
missing your presence that I depended on.
PRESSED
The invalidity of common sense
begins to find water above the creaks-
cracks-
swaying in
avalanches cave,
masking dirty crevasses-
born bronze with tailpipes
and back bones,
arches swaying amongst clouds
that soak into my
pores,
lick my face-
melt my tongue.
UNNAMED
Rescue me into glass
Snowflakes and
textured sun rays,
whisper my tale with
sincerity and triumph
loosen my heart to
conquer dreams and
sweep clouds beneath
my toes as I
serenade the world with
words of poetry.
Bring me to my knees in worship,
and shed the veils of skin
from my eyes, O'Lord
so that I may see
truth for truth
and darkness for darkness,
mostly O' Lord
embrace me with your hand
so that I may have
courage of the utmost.

FOLLY TO WISDOM
I attempt to grab onto the
wind and hold it cupped in my hand,
to tame it, name it, eventually
frame it...
to count all the grains of Earth's sands.
To walk up to a building,
pull out one brick
to show you the insides
through one little crick
peep, circle, hole, dent, corner, patch
over the floor I creak and I crack.
Failing attempt to pull gravity upwards,
sit like the benches,
talk to the birds
sleep in the trenches
capture pictures with words.
Prairies of water stare at the sky
reflecting, redirecting
never asking just why.
So mankind garnished with age,
not willing to look
fears the next page..
so he puts down the book
and walks off of the stage.
