About Me

Royal Tha Great was born in Harlem, NY. At age 6 he moved to Chicago, IL. While growing up on Chicago's north side (Evanston) He grew up listening to hometown artists like Twista, Do or Die, Common, Da Brat and many more. It was at age 10 that Hip-Hop began playing a major role in his life. He quickly became indulged with the like's of Jay-Z, Tupac, Nas, Biggie, and Bone Thugs and Harmony. These are said to be his inspiration and the reason he started want to be an MC. He and some of his childhood friends began writing poetry and then rhyming. But as with a lot of young black men growing up in Chicago, art imated life. He began hanging with a not to be mentioned organization. He too like his friends had older brothers and saw what street life could bring. By his senior year in high school, his mother had had enough with the outrageous behavior. He and his siblings were sent to Orlando, Fla. In 2000 that’s when has craft really took off. There he met Tek_the_Intern, Xaqution, Don P, Boogie Man, New York, Truth, Sector-7, Lil Trama, and Hard tymes. Killa T, Lazy-1, and many more. They began to form a tight bond that is still intact today. They set there sights on making a group called the League of Kings. There first act was at Maynard Evans High Talent show. Saturday call-in freestyle battles on 95.3 hosted by DJ Prostyle. And various 102 Jamz freestyle concerts. Producer soon heard the buzz of some local kids mainly from "Up North" doing battles at local malls, wanted to check them out. He agreed to record a 1 song deal. The song "Day of Destiny" was soon recorded. Hit was Royal's first studio song which featured Don P, Truth, Tek the Intern, and P.Jesus. He liked the song so much he invited them to a radio station in Miami, Fla. (99.1 Jamz) WEDR. There they were interviewed as local unsigned talent. Caller's gave ok responses to the song. The producer lost interested after weeks of no additional air play. But never discouraged the group quickly began finding means of trying to record on their own. In 2004 while working on their 2nd mix tape, group front man "New York" was brutally gunned down. Leaving the entire group separated and discouraged. After several arrest's by other members, and the group quickly losing enthusiasm, they separated and went solo. In 2006 they came together and decided to work with what they had. In 2007 after news of group member "Hard Tymes" being shot, they began to think it's now or never. Flashing back to 2005, Tek the Intern befriended an up and coming DJ/Producer/MC named Lyv Wyr, and took him under his wing. With Lyv Wyr owning his own spot on WPRK 91.5 in Winter Park, Fla. the chance of exposure was greater than ever. In July of 2007 he moved to Brooklyn, New York with the hopes of getting his own record label deal. On Feb 14th 2009 he released his debut mix tape entitled "The Life Line" With great buzz it instantly became a hood classic. Royal is currently working on his solo debut album entitled "Day of Destiny." And with his second solo mix tape entitled "Death of A Prophet" he is sure to cause a major buzz within the mix tape circuit. Stay tuned for more info on Royal Tha Great in the near future.
