Fazal moved to New York in 1985 where he continued to play and tour internationally with Mutabruka and other leading Reggae artist such as Sister Carol, Brigadier Jerry, Charlie Chaplin, Alton Ellis and Bob Andy.
Fazal relocated to California in 1993, shortly afterwards he met Colette McGeough and their relationship formed.
Colette a native of Ireland traveled and lived in London, Europe, The Middle East and Africa before traveling to the States. She co-created Venus One with a vision towards not only featuring the Reggae Music she loved, but also featuring the spoken word in short story and poetry form to be recorded at Venus One.
Colette, a writer of short stories and poetry herself, grew up in the politically active environment of Knockreagh, Castleblayney, on the Border between the Republic and the Northern Counties in Eiré p.Colette moved to London, in her early 20s. There she shared a home with her friend Rosemary O’Connor and Rosemary’s boyfriend Dave Robinson. Dave was the co founder of StiffRecords , which was originating at that time. Stiff was the rebel Godfather of what was to become the Indie Music Revolution. ‘’It was a very exciting time to be around the dynamics of what was then a revolution in changing the course of music history‘’.
However, Colette’s true love of music was more World Music focused,worldmusiccentral.org/ Reggae, African, Middle Eastern, Indian and Celtic. She left the UK to persue and combine her two main passions, world travel and music appreciation.
Traveling and working through out Europe, The Middle East and Africa for several years, she finally came to the States for a short stay prior to continuing a planned journey to India. The journey to India did not occur yet, and her visit became a Residence. On meeting Fazal, ’’we had so many shared strong bonds. Both of us were passionate people with a love for each other, the music, world travel and strong spiritual beliefs. We also shared a common vision, that the greatest gift we each possessed was a passion to bring awareness and a means to other people to recognizes their talents and give form to their own creativity. On this pemise, Venus One was created.
With the birth of their daughter, Deardhrá in 1996, Fazal began to record his own original material while limiting his touring, so he could devote time to being at home with his family. In 1996, Fazal and Colette created Venus One Studio aka DP Studio, (named after their daughter Deardhrá Prendergast). Venus One (DP Studio) has recorded many local California artist along with several of Fazal’s own recordings.
At that time Fazal was very much in demand by the local based Jamaican Reggae artists from the Bay Area and also by non Jamaican reggae artists. Fazal’s name is on scores of local projects playing guitar, recording, mixing, arranging and engineering for bands such as Mabrack, Sister I Live, Dennis The Menace, King Caleb, Ras Jacob, Raskidus, Wadi Gad, Ras Digital, I World, Reggae Angels, Dub Nation and Joseph 1. Fazal also played at all the annual Reggae Festivals, including, Monterey, Sierra Nevada, Reggae on the River and out of State Festivals.
One Year Fazal set an amazing record for backing up 6 different artists at the Sierra Nevada World Festival. Such was his expertise and talent that many Jamaican Artists requested his authentic Kingston style to back their acts.
Fazal was killed in a very tragic car accident, on April 1st 2005. The tadegy occured directly opposite the site of Reggae on the River festival (Reggae Rising) Humboldt, CA. This was the 1st USA festivals that Fazal left Jamaica to play at back in the 80s.He subsequently played there many times as well as every other Reggae Festival through out the States.
The Music world lost a legend, a genius, but his music still lives through his upcoming CD release, in Feb. 2008, titled Shadows In The Storm
Later release to follow mid 2008, titled The Eight Sense (Beyond The Known)
Fazal’s visions, passions and music live strong through
VEnus One World.
