"I'll take a living human drunk over a phony electronic pixel vampire." -- Andrei Codrescu
In other word, I want to meet people who actually want to meet in person, not just lurk on-line. More specifically: Cool, bright folks. Non-lemmings. Non-hobbits.
Bonus points if you're cute and single...
All over the map. I like anything with that Eastern European madness to it (like Firewater, Gogol Bordello, Devotchka, Word/Inferno Friendship Society), most ska, and punk. But I also like a lot of so-called "prog" and ambient and ethereal music, like The High Violets, Cue, and Lush. And torch singers and rockabilly, and ... Oh hell there are just waaaaay too many to list.. easier to say not much rap, and not much country.
In specific, I dig locals like Th High Violets, The Epoxies, The Prids, Heroes and Villains, and doubtless more I'll find, as I explore more.
Back when I lived in Austin, I also used to regularly follow these guys: Lust Murder Box, Ohn, Cue, Experimental Aircraft, AM Syndicate, Golden Arm Trio, Ugly Beats, The Applicators, and the Flametrick Subs. And I definitely miss Stretford.
And the following non-locals: Dresden Dolls, The Dears, The The, Autour de Lucie, The Primitives, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Waco Brothers, Aimee Mann, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Moby, Chemical Brothers, Franz Ferdinand, Cake, Morphine, Goldfrapp, The Clash, Warren Zevon, and Johnny Cash, and most things Goth.
Dr. Strangelove, Blade Runner, Vertigo, The Hunger, The Usual Suspects, The Matrix, Memento, Bound, Run Lola Run, Amelie, Fellowship of the Ring, Snatch, Reservoir Dogs, Koyannisqqatsi, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Princess Bride, Young Frankenstein
Haven't had one for years. Don't watch it. OK OK, so I have watched Firefly and Battlestar Galactica on DVD, on occasion. But that's on the laptop, actually. So there.
Good Omens, Cat's Cradle, Brief History of Time, Third Chimpanze, Lucky Jim, Tao of Pooh, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Animal Farm, Green Eggs and Ham, ...
Crowley from "Good Omens", Ming the Merciless, Dr. Doom, ...
Oh wait. Do you mean in the real world? In that case, make 'em Hunter S. Thompson, Henry Rollins, Ghandi, and Jimmy Carter, with Al Gore coming up on the pack.
