I am here for Friends

About Me

Greetings. If you know me in person, which most of you on my friends list do, then anything I say will be redundant.

My Interests

Designing clothing, making hippie food, teaching munchkins, people watching, cats, humor writing, stand up comedy

I'd like to meet:

People with whom I can have intelligent conversation.

Music:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Voltaire, Alison Krauss and Union Station, The Cure, Dresden Dolls, Aimee Mann, John Coltrane, early Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Joy Division, Natalie Merchant, U2, REM, Decembrists, Grey Delisle, Neko Case, Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, Tom Waits, The Pogues, Thelonius Monk, Gogol Bordello, and a whole lot of others. (Please forgive the serious genre mixing).

Television:

Out of the stuff that is no longer on the air: I'm a huge fan of Red Dwarf, a British sci-fi show with jokes cheaper than the scenery (if that is possible), Randall and Hopkirk (Late sixties detective show), MST3K, and the inimitable Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends.Of things that I actually miss a little that are on now, about the only thing that makes the list is Robot Chicken.

Books:

Lots of them, far too many to account for in this little space. I'm a fan of the darkly humorous in literature- my big brain prefers Kurt Vonnegut and Ray Bradbury (okay, so maybe Bradbury's just dark). Also a fan of Kafka, Dante, Faulkner, and just so you don't think I'm an elitist, Dave Barry.

My Blog

When spam attacks

Upon checking my email, I found a lovely message hiding a trojan horse by the name of spinach.   I doubted spinach was a good thing to keep in your computer, so I didn't open it. ...

Life from behind the deli counter...

For some time, I've been consumed in the search for non-minimum wage employment so as to pay my rent and bills, and I found it in the deli of Cressler's, where in spite of my mostly vegetarian na...

Friends, sorry I've been out of touch...

Between my students, professors, classmates, and colleagues, I barely have time for sleep, let alone socialization.  After the wedding and my finals it should ease off, so when summer comes I sho...

And it's a nasty cold.  Thank you, Madison.   Not that I didn't expect this- I know the next year or so I'll be sick more times than I can count. So I've passed another teacher mileston...

How good at sports I am not

Last night, my friend David and I enjoyed a night of bowling and anime, and I topped my high score.  My record high score in bowling is.... 47.  Yes, that's exactly how bad I am at bowling. ...

With every goodbye, you learn

Lessons don't always come easily, and this latest one about trust, about the true countenance of someone I cared about, was not something I'd like to ever repeat.   So I was manipulated so m...
