Transcend was born from the ashes of a banded by the name of Undecidead. Undecidead, who’s members included; Nick Houpt – Drums, Matt Loebig – Bass, Scott Burns and Jason Montgomery – sharing Vocals and Guitar duties, was formed sometime in the early 90’s. Jason and Matt departed from the group sometime in 94-95. Shortly after, Jon Kininmonth stepped in on Guitar, Vocals and Keyboard. Stephen Bouse later stepped in on bass.
The remaining members of Undecidead and the two new members worked hard to resurface and reclaim their following in the local scene. In the winter of 96, Transcend was born. In 97, Scott and Stephen quit due to creative differences, but Stephen rejoined Transcend shortly after. The Three piece, continued to work hard to put Transcend on the map. They were constantly in the studio, playing parties and bars, and had their songs on the local radio station.
In 2000, Nick quit Transcend to become a permanent member of Louisville’s local band Incursion. Find a replacement for Nick proved to be impossible. Either no one could keep up with our fast and technical style or wanted to play more Deftones style music. In September of 2000, Stephen decided to move to Phoenix in hopes to create his own band. Jon and Nick would once again unite in 2002/2003 to create the band Defaced, but would suffer the same fate as Undecidead and Transcend.
