I am a freelance photographer and photojournalist that is very thankful to have the opportunity to get paid for doing something that I love. My work has given me the opportunity to go places and do things that many people never experience. I've been making images now for more than 35 years. It is a passion that gripped me many years ago and I'm thankful that it has never lost it's grip.
I took my first pictures back in the early seventies. My family was vacationing at a place called Laguna Beach in California. We used to go there for a couple of weeks every summer. Laguna is about an hour from where I grew up in Southern California.
The journey began one afternoon when my father let me use his Minolta SRT 101 35mm camera to take some pictures on the beach. I ran up and down the beach taking pictures of sea shells, waves, and birds at sunset. A few days later I got the pictures back. They were 35mm transparencies. As I looked through the pictures passion whispered in my ear and a love affair was born. Other love affairs have come and gone in my life but my love for making images has never left me. I pray that it never will. I can't imagine being without it.
Life is a gift and one which is much more valueable when it can be shared. I am comfortable with who I am and am not interested in trying to be what someone wants me to be - been there, done that...got the T-shirt.
One of my favorite quotes is from Henry David Thoreau:"Most men live lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still in them".To all who understand the desperation that Thoreau was talking about I encourage you to look forward with hope and determination to the day when you will sing your song.
My greatest priviledge in life has been the opportunity to be the father of the two most amazing children that anyone could imagine. They are big now but they will always be my babies.
