Hey! My name is Haley Butler
I'm 14 years old!
I play the fiddle :] I've played for 10 years.
I love music, it's my passion.
The best advice I've ever gotten was "stay another day and don't change."
I WILL be the first Chinese girl to play the Grand Ole Opry
I'm homeschooled!
I play the guitar too ;)
I love to listen to amazing music. If I go to a concert I like a lot, it makes me want to cry because I'm so happy.
Talk to me! :)
Love, Haley

From being wrapped in a blanket with only a note stating her birthdate and then being abandoned on the streets of the Anhui Province in China to playing in Chaffin Dinner Barn’s musical, “Annie,” Haley Butler has learned to shine!
“I am thankful every day to my birth parents,” says Haley, her infectious smile making the room seem a bit brighter. “If they hadn’t abandoned me, I wouldn’t have this life! I wouldn’t even speak English!”
Haley, known as “Ma Hai Luo” to the nannies who were her caretakers in China, became Haley Anhui Butler in September, 1995—and became mostly American with a little bit of Chinese mixed in.
Haley loves performing. She has always been a bit of a ham, delighting in making people laugh even as a toddler. As a young woman, Haley brings to the stage the charisma and presence of few performers her age, and MAN! can that girl fiddle! There’s something fascinating about seeing a Chinese girl play the Orange Blossom Special or Rocky Top.
Haley began taking violin lessons in 1998 at the age of 3. Even before that, she traipsed around behind older sister, Heidi, also a fiddler, trying to pick and pluck at the strings of Heidi’s fiddle. “I’d hear, ‘Mom, Haley keeps picking at my strings,’” says mom, Jeannie Butler, “whenever her sister was rehearsing, so we had to get Haley a tiny little violin and start her in music lessons early.”
Her performance credits have included music videos, films, commercials, print ads, industrial films, and theater, where time and time again she has been the principal actor. Fiddling credits include annual repeat performances at the Bellevue Community Picnic, the 4th of July celebration at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, numerous shopping malls, nursing homes, schools, grand openings and community celebrations. “I love fiddling,” grins Haley, “I even got to play for Charlie Daniels once—look!” And Haley whips out a picture of herself fiddling for a grinning Charlie Daniels. She went on, “Charlie signed my fiddle. I think he’s just the best.”
Her ebony hair, brown eyes and olive complexion certainly make her stand out. “Being Chinese is sometimes funny,” Haley says, “because people are surprised that I have a Southern accent instead of a Chinese one!”
The most impressive things about this young woman are her global awareness and her dedication to helping others. At 13, Haley has made 12 trips to China to deliver basic necessities to the orphans there and refurbish the orphanages to improve the lives of the children. She’s also ready to make a third donation of her long, shiny black hair to Locks of Love, the organization whose mission is to provide human hair for wigs for cancer patients. “We were told that Asian hair is the hardest to get,” Haley states, “but it’s not hard for me! My hair grows really fast, so I just let it grow out and then donate it for a wig.”
In fact, Haley likes to do things BIG. She plans to make a city-wide project of getting hair donations for Locks of Love as part of earning Girl Scout awards. She THEN plans to go to China for a hair drive there for the organization. “If Asian hair is the hardest to get, then I’ll just get a bunch on my next trip to China.” To Haley Butler, life is just like that. See a need, supply the need.
When Haley is asked “What is your dream?,” she replies: “Oh, that’s easy--to be the first Chinese woman to play on the Grand Ole Opry!” And something tells me that—like everything else she’s worked for—it’s a dream she’ll someday accomplish.
