Presenting
The Interstellar Graffiti Artists..
The Interstellar Graffiti Artists are Danny Doyle, Richard Filsell & Jay Cunningham-Pearce. Three friends who share a love of music, life and laughter. Drawing influence from a range of musical genres, from hip-hop & soul to classical, punk and heavy metal, the trio are, first and foremost, friends who met in a college back in the day... sshmokin & a jokin.
Over the long years of their friendship, Danny & Rich have aligned with several different Hip-Hop Collectives, but formed as The Interstellar Graffiti Artists (I.G.A. for short) in 2001, when Rich issued a challenge to the disbanded members of their last group to write a rhyme beginning with the words “I’m interstellar…â€. Ten people were issued the challenge, only these two rose to it and began to form the basis of a new and exciting band- “Lil†Rich bringing the motivation (ha, ha) and Doyle bringing a musical genius that has to be kept caged for fear of implosion!
Jay Cunningham-Pearce, who had recorded & performed live with the duo as a regular guest vocalist from 2003.. "Officially" joined the band in 2008 after years of sporadic yet worthy influence, & bud bringing.. ;) and has since been contributing more of his own inimitable singing style, lyrics & inspiring guitar riffs to the unique lyrical acrobatics of the interstellar rhyme duo.
Chances are you may have felt the brief ripple they caused back in 2003 with the release of their White Label recording “Ghost Town ‘03†which was a re-working of the classic 1981 hit by The Specials. Unfortunately, “creative differences†saw their initial album- The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - shelved by their then producer Lethal Injection, and I.G.A were left waiting for a possible outcome...
Briefly the rift between artists and producer was sewn up and they re-united to record “The Strange Beats EP†which will see a limited release in 2009 in anticipation of their forthcoming sophomore effort.
Three words: Keep Your Eyes Peeled Muthabytchez!
(“That’s four words! I know but I’m going for dramatic effect here bruv!â€)
The last few years have been somewhat turbulent for the band, dealing with upheavals in their personal lives, as well as deep musings, troubles and revelations with, and about each other. They had fought hard to get back into the studio to begin their next project and, thanks to some help from Hedspace Recordings, the work finally began in earnest in 2008. With a new bag of pebbles and an ocean of instrumentals ahead them they return to do what eluded them first (and second) time around.
Stellar: Evolution is their long awaited second album, at once gripping, experimental and thought provoking! Concerning themselves more with the music than any hype or marketing, the band have constructed a masterpiece taking their own style of music to new unheard of heights.
For those who were fortunate enough to have heard the previous recordings, this album will be a welcome return to form, as well as the next step in the bands evolution. For those who are listening to The I.G.A. for the first time, it will be an introduction to what is most definitely the next thing you’ll slap ya mama to... ;)
Their album ssssshould be released in July of 2009. But we make no promises. Ho, ho, ho!
Their continuing mission: To seek out new beats and new instrumentation, to boldly go where no rumtown lyricists have gone before...
See You Soon… HOPEFULLY!!!
