April's professional start came as backup singer for aspiring Nashville artist TERRY RADIGAN, opening for established acts including America and, during one memorable evening at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, The Band featuring Bruce Springsteen as a special guest. April also sang backup vocals in the studio for MELBA MOORE under producer GENE McFADDEN in New York City. April has performed as a soloist on cable and national television programs, as well as various live stages in New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville.
After entertaining a production deal with Broadbeard Productions (Debbie Gibson) in the dance-rock genre, April decided to instead form a straight-ahead original hard rock band in New York City, recording a CD mostly of her original rock songs titled “Dancin’ Thru The Mine Fields," produced by DANIEL WISE (Joan Osborne, Scissor Sisters, Maceo Parker). As an artist, April’s vocal performances have been characterized as “powerful, yet vulnerable," and likened to Pat Benatar and Linda Ronstadt by industry professionals and her peers. April's original rock band performed in major NYC rock clubs, including The Cat Club, The China Club, and The Marquee. Her next release was a solo album of original adult contemporary songs titled “Watercolors Fade," which she co-produced with STEVE SKINNER (Rent, Celine Dion, Jewel).
As a composer and lyricist, April was honored in New York City with an Abe Oleman Scholarship from the National Academy of Popular Music (nominated by BMI), has written with hit songwriters ALEX FORBES (Taylor Dayne "Don't Rush Me", Alicia "Too Turned On", Joey Lawrence, and other pop artists), JON ROBBIN (Lorrie Morgan "I Guess You Had To Be There", Chris Cagle, and more), ANNA LISA GRAHAM (George Strait "You Know Me Better Than That", Martina McBride, Alan Jackson and other country artists), and WILL RAMBEAUX (Heart “Strandedâ€, Faith Hill “Wild Oneâ€, and other country artists) and collaborated with several staff writers of major Nashville music publishers including Wrensong, Milsap-Galbraith, Ten Ten Music, and Starstruck.
April’s vision of writing songs with a universal message of living authentically, "nakedly" and passionately has remained unshakable over the years. She has won song awards, and some of her songs are currently being aired on Women of Substance Radio online. April's recent compositions include the thought-provoking edgy commercial rock tune titled “THE 8TH DAY", asking God what happens now; what she calls the subconscious writing of indie pop/rock tune"GIANT" about wanting to be important and bigger in life; the indie rock/pop/punk song "HEARTLAND" written for a good friend about the journey to one's heart; her very personal pop/rock song of love and forgiveness to her father titled "UNPAINTING PORTRAITS"; and the smooth pop/country love ballad co-write "NO ONE ELSE BELONGS HERE.
April is currently writing and recording an artist album for release in 2010, and shopping her material to other artists/film/TV. She writes in Nashville and Northern California and collaborates with writers in NYC, LA, Nashville and overseas. April's songs have been placed in TV Advertising, Institutional, and with Indie artists.
