History of all types. Militaria in particular, but I love conversations about most anything historical. I love swords and spears and all manners of edged weapons, bows and arrows, plate armor and chain mail, so- i figure i will practice some blacksmithing when I return from Iraq- at least then I will have some skills- cause girls only like guys with great skills. I like video games, though maybe not as much as I used to- on console, I like fighting games, and in my humble opinion, the soul caliber series is really the only one worth playing. On PC, the superior gaming platform, first person shooters and strategy games are primarily what grabs my attention, though once a blue moon a decent RPG grabs my attention. I LOVE firearms, I love shooting them, collecting them, fixing them up and modifying them,- and I like pretty much all sorts of firearms, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, muzzleloaders, and most of all rifles- especially from the onset of smokeless powder till post WWII era. I like to hunt, and occasionally fish, and I love the forests, rivers and lakes of my native land.
Just about anybody. I consider myself a fairly affable person, and I get along with just about anybody.
Well, truth be told, I really like music of most varieties, but I really dont usually get cranked up over any particular band. I like Flogging Molly, and I like a little Punk here and there, but I definately have a threshold for it. Most 'regular' pop music I really dont mind, some country is alright, I even dont mind techno or rap- I guess from my viewpoint theres a time and a place for nearly everything. My favorite music would have to be like celtic and traditional type music though- The Chieftains are awesome.
Ohhhh boy, this is seriously tough, I am sorta a big movie guy, and I like most movies- my favorite are historical and war movies though. There are so many good ones- Saving Private Ryan, Last of the Mohicans, The Patriot, We were soldiers, Blackhawk Down, Dances with Wolves, and about a hundred others. But, I like just about every genre of movie- sci fi, action/adventure, comedy, even chick flicks.
I didnt really watched much TV with the exception of once in a while watching some fox news/cnn in the chow hall- but now I am back home i watch the History Channel quite a bit, and Star Trek-ummmm, thats about it.
Hmmm, well, I really got into pretty much all the Tom Clancy books. J.R.R. Tolkien was amazing, he really started the whole fantasy genre and made it what it is today. Cosmos- great book, really got the old noodle working. The Art of War by Sun Tsu, another one that gets you thinking- that stuff can apply to so many things, and the thinking and logic is sound. A Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Mushashi, I dont really understand all of it, but I like to pretend that I do. And, I must say- the Eisenhorn trilogy was really good too, sure sucked me in, though I never thought I would get into Warhammer 40K. I like alot more books too, just cant think of them now. Bernard Cornwell ROCKS- James Bond is a pussy compared to Richard Sharpe. I guess these are the major ones though because I generally grade books or movies or anything really by how much it makes me think- so if these are the ones i thought of, they must be some of the better ones.
Wow, there are so many people that I look up to, its hard to know where to start. I try and see the people who are my heroes, and see their individual virtues, and the best I can I try and establish and maintain those virtues. I guess my biggest hero in the world is my Dad, he is just the best in the world, he is honest, caring, knowledgable and wise, strong in every way a person should be. He is just the best Dad in the world and I can talk to him about anything. He made it easy for me to see exactly how I want to raise my children someday. My mom is my other big hero. She is very wise and real about things, she has a very direct and some would say sometimes insensitive way about going about many things, though she does have tact when it is really needed. Me and her often butt heads, but its just because we are too much alike in many ways, and both very stubborn. I have about a hundred other people that I look up to and admire, but for now, I will just list my parental units.
