Individuals and groups will benefit when using this book in grief sessions. Both men and women will gain insight into their own feelings as they read the candid thoughts expressed by the author. These writings will be a resource to encourage journaling.
Engraved Messages is a book of help, hope, and healing. It can help one to understand the power of negative words and actions and the long-term affect they comport in ones life and relationships. It also points to hope and is a written testament of the author’s own troubles, trials, and triumphs as she has journeyed from childhood to adulthood carrying the “scars†of careless words. But in addition to help and hope this book speaks of healing. Having been privileged to walk along side through Cheryl’s transitions and transformations over thirty years of marriage, I can testify that faith in God, fellowship with family, and the fortitude to face her fears have served as the “road markers†that have directed her to the place of personal freedom. Many of the messages from her childhood are still there, but they have lost the power to control and constrain her life. The negative memories of her adolescent years are just those…memories. She has found her “voice.†And, now, she boldly speaks of those experiences and inner images. Her “scars†have been turned into “stars†that can direct others to a place of release, relief, and restoration.Rev. Michael Gordon, M. A.

Engraved Messages lets the “voices†of triumph be heard from peoples who felt rejected and neglected, unloved and unlovely, abused and misused. Through these pages the message of Hope rings loud and clear. Whether the inflictions have been intentional or unintentional the results are the same: people end up feeling disenfranchised from family, friends, and strangers. Through the pages of this book we read that when people embrace “God’s Planned Destiny,†deliverance is certain and the journey is sweet.Dolores Gaunty-Porter,Ph.D.

Graduate School of EducationFor many generations it has been stated, “Children are birthed into this world as a clean blank slate, and the words (engraved messages) of parents, caregivers, and/or the community help to shape the course of their destiny.†In slight contrast and from a biblical
perspective, I believe a child’s destiny is shaped by the seed of a spoken word before they enter the realm of physical existence. ENGRAVED MESSAGES… a divine, yet poetically transcribed journey of pain, struggle, inner transformation, inspiration, and soulful healing and restoration. In this compelling memoir, Cheryl Vashti Powell-Gordon gracefully captures the essence, potency, and lifelong impact of one’s verbal expressions onto the lives of others. This is a truly a must read for parents, perspective parents, caregivers, church leaders, mental health professionals, counselors, and teachers…those who often have significant influence over and access to speak into the lives of children, adolescents, adults, and families.Michael G.
