Cheryl Vashti is a wife of thirty years, a mother of two wonderful young men. But her life has not been “picture-perfect.” Her journey began at childhood where she experienced the loss of the family unity through the divorce of her parents. This personal devastation could not stop the sense of destiny that God planned for her life.Cheryl is a prolific writer and has completed her second book, “Engraved Messages: Messages from Your Past; Finding the Keys to Release,” which connects the fact that negative words and actions from ones past form the foundation upon which ones future will be built.Cheryl has risen from “tragedy to triumph” by taking the tribulations of life and using them as springboards to help others. Her commitment to serving others has gained the respect and admiration of her family, friends, church, and community.Cheryl stands as a shining example of the “triumph of the human spirit despite adversity.” Her faith in God and love for people has sustained her and helped her use personal tragedy to encourage others. Her first book, “Through The Valley of Transition: Change,” has helped many people navigate through difficult periods of grief and loss in their lives. Throughout her life she has overcome many negative episodes including the loss of her beloved brother, grandmother, and mother to whom she administered care during hospice care in her home. Good Afternoon Mrs. Gordon,
I just wanted to tell you that I started reading your book and I'm only at pg 47 but I've marked off SEVERAL pages already that I can relate to. You definitely tap into the deepest emotions a person can feel when they're going through. I'm looking forward to what the rest of the book has in store for me.

Hey Girl,
Today, on my way to work I decided to read a bit more from the book. I finished up Chapter One and Chapter Two. During Chapter Two (mind you I am on the train), tears started rolling down my eyes. It was as if the band-aid was taken off and a wound reopened, which goes to show you that the wound has not completely healed. It allowed me to see, to some extent, why I felt the way I felt and did some of the things I did. It also help me to understand the actions of my children because the cycle had been repeated. But most of all, the tears were of joy. Letting me know what a good God we serve and how he is forever keeping and blessing me.
If just reading the first two chapters had this effect on me, I shudder to think what awaits me in the latter pages. For you to share these painful, yet learning experiences with others may truly help to bless someone else.

Hello Cheryl:
I really enjoyed your book; it touched me with so many personal feelings and thoughts of my childhood, and yes, my adulthood as well. Your book helped me to reflect on some of the issues in my life that caused me to feel rejected, unloved, and not wanted by anyone.
I think you have been blessed to share your experiences with others and help us realize that we all just want to be loved. Yet, your book helps to reaffirm the greatest love of all, which is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God has blessed you with a wonderful gift and I thank you for sharing it with the world!
God bless you, E. Gore
Hi Cheryl,
I have enjoyed reading your book. I appreciate your insightfulness and strength to be vulnerable. I am sure God will use it to heal many lives and you will hear testimonies to that end. I have already started telling others about it. I know that I will refer to it, in my work with my clients and in other areas of ministry. The Word says that your gift will create a space for you and bring you before many great people. I believe you gift has found a space crowded with people.
I especially liked the piece on Process, since that seems to be my theme song. But all the works were beautifully executed.
God bless, Joyce W
Hi Cheryl
I started reading the book as soon as I got in the car and I was so drawn---I just couldn't put it down. At every stop light I was reading at the drive through I was reading when I got home I read. I was amazed at how open and transparent you were in this book.
This book goes beyond good reading---it takes you into depths that cause you to confront particular issues---knowing that the confrontation is the path to deliverance.
Thanks again, Debra
Mrs. G.
This book made me realize that what I thought I let go, was only hidden deep within triggering all the wrong emotions. My self-esteem was killed as a child and my grandmother was the only one I could go to until she died, when I was nine years old. I could never open up to anyone causing me to act out. This book made me realize that even now I seek attention because as a child I was always neglected. Because no one had the time for me to open up and express myself when I was little. I have a brick wall surrounding my inner layer of skin keeping them from getting any closer. Although I hurt on the inside no one will ever know my pain because they can only see the beautiful cover of the book and not the worn and torn pages on the inside. Engraved Messages showed me things about myself in a different light. I’m yet facing problems and situations, but this book is the key to opening the locked doors of my past.

THROUGH THE VALLEY OF TRANSITION is a compilation of poetry and writings that express a wide range emotions and thoughts that one might experience when going through loss. Individuals and groups will benefit when using this book in grief sessions. Both men and women will gain insight into their own feelings as they read the candid thoughts expressed by the author. These writings will be a resource to encourage journaling.
Engraved Messages is a book of help, hope, and healing. It can help one to understand the power of negative words and actions and the long-term affect they comport in ones life and relationships. It also points to hope and is a written testament of the author’s own troubles, trials, and triumphs as she has journeyed from childhood to adulthood carrying the “scars” of careless words. But in addition to help and hope this book speaks of healing. Having been privileged to walk along side through Cheryl’s transitions and transformations over thirty years of marriage, I can testify that faith in God, fellowship with family, and the fortitude to face her fears have served as the “road markers” that have directed her to the place of personal freedom. Many of the messages from her childhood are still there, but they have lost the power to control and constrain her life. The negative memories of her adolescent years are just those…memories. She has found her “voice.” And, now, she boldly speaks of those experiences and inner images. Her “scars” have been turned into “stars” that can direct others to a place of release, relief, and restoration.Rev. Michael Gordon, M. A. President, Community of Love Ministries, Inc.
Engraved Messages lets the “voices” of triumph be heard from peoples who felt rejected and neglected, unloved and unlovely, abused and misused. Through these pages the message of Hope rings loud and clear. Whether the inflictions have been intentional or unintentional the results are the same: people end up feeling disenfranchised from family, friends, and strangers. Through the pages of this book we read that when people embrace “God’s Planned Destiny,” deliverance is certain and the journey is sweet.Dolores Gaunty-Porter,Ph.D. Associated Professor Vanguard University Graduate School of EducationFor many generations it has been stated, “Children are birthed into this world as a clean blank slate, and the words (engraved messages) of parents, caregivers, and/or the community help to shape the course of their destiny.” In slight contrast and from a biblical perspective, I believe a child’s destiny is shaped by the seed of a spoken word before they enter the realm of physical existence. ENGRAVED MESSAGES… a divine, yet poetically transcribed journey of pain, struggle, inner transformation, inspiration, and soulful healing and restoration. In this compelling memoir, Cheryl Vashti Powell-Gordon gracefully captures the essence, potency, and lifelong impact of one’s verbal expressions onto the lives of others. This is a truly a must read for parents, perspective parents, caregivers, church leaders, mental health professionals, counselors, and teachers…those who often have significant influence over and access to speak into the lives of children, adolescents, adults, and families.Michael G.
