THE SILVER-BROWN DANCE COMPANY (SBD) was founded in 1998, and since then has appeared before audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Argentina, Israel, and France. The Company has represented the United States for three consecutive years at The EDANCO International Dance Festival in the Dominican Republic, and recently headlined the Israel 60th Anniversary Festival in Tel Aviv. The Company is currently touring Artistic Director Eva Bordeaux Silverstein’s latest work “Excuse My French, Everybody in America,†a valentine to the city of New Orleans.
Affectionately known as Brooklyn’s fearless dance company, SBD performs for audiences of all ages and backgrounds, creating work that celebrates the human spirit with "wit and elation" (The Village Voice) and revels in "the joy of dance" (The New York Times). Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Silverstein has been hailed as “a true blue Brooklyn treasure†(Brooklyn Daily Eagle). Her signature style mixes daring athleticism with kinetic abandon, described by The Philadelphia Inquirer as "bust-out dancing and teflon smooth moves."
2008 marks SBD’s 10th Anniversary Season. The Company maintains a year-round schedule of performance, education, and outreach activities. SBD has two major annual outreach initiatives: Brooklyn to Bourbon Street and OASIS. In 2006 Ms. Silverstein & SBD launched The Katrina Kids Tour: Brooklyn to Bourbon Street, a program of free dance education and outreach at Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA. Created in response to the after-effects of Hurricane Katrina, Brooklyn to Bourbon Street has been profiled in The New Orleans Times Picayune, NOLA.com, and The Brooklyn Rail, and has now served over 200 young people throughout the Crescent City. Please see brooklyntobourbon.com for further information. The OASIS Series was founded in 2004 to memorialize the 9/11 anniversary through free, outdoor dance performances in Brooklyn Bridge Park with the NYC skyline as a backdrop.
SBD has received numerous awards, and has been supported by The Harkness Foundation for Dance since 1999. SBD is part of the Entrance to the Arts program at Goldman, Sachs & Co. SBD has been recognized for outstanding achievement by The Brooklyn Borough President each year since 2003, and recently performed at President Markowitz’s State of the Borough Address.
The Silver-Brown Dance Company is a non-profit foundation. The Company’s mission is to make modern dance accessible, relevant, and inviting for the widest possible audience. Through performance and education, SBD aims to expand our understanding of one another through the arts. For further information on SBD, please visit our website: silverbrowndance.org
