Vrane/Crows are big jet-black birds. These large, arrogant birds are very similar to ravens. They are among the most intelligent and adaptable of birds. In the breeding season, crows gather together to mob owls and other predators. Crows in turn may be mobbed by other birds, because their omnivorous diet includes eggs and nestlings as well as other small animals, vegetable matter, carrion (dead animals), and garbage. Crow nests are large platforms of sticks, usually in tall trees. The three to eight eggs are deeply colored, and are incubated by the female. The young are cared for by both parents. The voices of crows are loud and usually harsh, but are characteristic for each species. The crow's call sounds like "caw." This social bird sometimes gathers in flocks of many hundreds of birds.
You may find a crow on the ground that appears to be having difficulty flying. There will probably be other crows in the trees above you cawing and dive-bombing. If the eyes are blue, like this one, you are looking at a juvenile bird. If the bird is uninjured and not in immediate danger (e.g. not sitting in the road), it is best to leave it alone. As the young bird matures, the eye color will change from blue to brown.
