In honour of LGBT History month and as a Valentine's Day special, Fabulous Les n the Semtexgirl present a new club night of funky, soulful, electro, cosmic, acid + nu disco.
This will NOT be the Disco of Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees and Abba.
This IS the essence of Disco b4 it became "Disco", b4 it became commercial and b4 it became a polyester perversion of itself.
This is about regaining the essence of Disco from when it was about freedom, togetherness, love. When it was dirty, spiritual, thrilling, powerful, secret, underground and dangerous.
Here the history lesson beginnith!..
"Disco Sucks!" was originally the slogan of a large scale campaign mounted in the late 70s as a white, macho reaction against gay liberation and black pride, and that has been "credited" by some for the demise of Disco. Disco was driven by love, the reaction against it was driven by hate..Disco had its revenge, Disco is now known as the "primal parent of the modern dancefloor"!
So, we have reclaimed the name in honour of all those fags and their hags; dykes; bi's; drag queens; freaks; queers; and trannies who during the 70s while fighting for their human rights and their right to party, created a scene that became known as "Disco"!
This a also a tribute to our forebearers, who during this period became the inventors of nightclubbing, of the remix and pioneers of the sounds, skills, and vibe we now expect to experience as the norm at the hands of our DJs/clubs.
So please come out and join us in paying homage to our gay community, past n present; our family and friends; our creativity; our passion for dancing; our resilience; our fashion and our lust for life!
Lets dance to the music and celebrate how it changed the world!
