About Me

What is it? Sudan, Africa: There lies a region in west Sudan, currently going through a horrific conflict. Darfur is that region. The people of Darfur, ethnic Africans, are being robbed, raped and murdered every day by the primarily Arab, Janjaweed, a government sponsored, trained, and armed militia. Though the Sudanese Government denies this connection, it is clear that the Janjaweed are taking orders and receiving assistance from the government military. This conflict has left 400,000 ethnic Africans dead and 2.5 million displace from their homes. The conflict has been labeled genocide, the act of destroying a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group, by the United States in 2003. However, although lawfully bound as a member of the United Nations to act on a proclaimed genocide, we as a nation and as humans have done nothing to aide the victim suffering of genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

Who are we? As of now, we are a group of students from Eatonville High School, Eatonville, WA. We have two objectives as a group, to raise funds for aid in the Darfur Genocide, and to raise awareness in every one of the atrocities that are occurring in this region.

In the near future, we hope to officially become a chapter of STAND, a student anti-genocide coalition. In order to be a recognized chapter, we have to raise awareness and education on the subject of genocide and more specifically the one occurring in Darfur, Sudan, fundraise to support aid groups helping out in Darfur, and stay in communication with STAND.

STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition is an umbrella organization of over 600 high school and college chapters dedicated to putting an end to genocide, specifically the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
