Interprète et arrangeuse de formation classique et jazz, Madeleine Thériault a été lauréate du prix de musique de l'Université Concordia en 1990. Elle a parfait sa formation aux États-Unis et obtenu une maîtrise en interprétation jazz de l'Université de Miami. Elle a également participé à plusieurs classes de maître données par des artistes tels que Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny, Betty Carter, Red Rodney.
De retour à Montréal, elle a partagé la scène avec certains de nos meilleurs jazzmen. Elle a chanté entre autre au Upstairs Jazz Bar and Grill, dans les Maisons de la culture, ainsi qu'à la Salle Oscar Peterson. Son concert donné dans le cadre de la série « Jazz sur le vif en folie » a été diffusé partout au pays sur les ondes de Radio-Canada.
Depuis près de quinze ans, elle enseigne la technique vocale, le répertoire et l'interprétation jazz à l'Université Concordia. En 2002, elle a fondé l'ensemble vocal jazz de l'Université McGill, qu'elle dirige toujours. Elle donne en outre des classes de maître et des cours de chant privés.
Artiste accomplie, Madeleine Thériault évolue avec élégance entre maîtrise et abandon. Sa voix pure, fin alliage d'émotion et de profondeur, lui permet des interprétations personnelles qui vont droit au coeur. Elle offre un jazz coloré où l'originalité côtoie la tradition.

A native of Quebec, Madeleine Thériault studied both jazz and classical music. She graduated with honors from Concordia University in Montreal and was awarded the Music Prize, given to the most outstanding graduating student. She then earned a Master of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami. She participated in many jazz workshop headed by influential figures such as Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny, Betty Carter, and Red Rodney.
Since moving back to Montreal in 1994, she has performed in a variety of settings from clubs to concerts. She has been featured nationally on CBC Radio. Credits include performances with some of Canada's top jazz musicians. She currently teaches voice technique, jazz repertoire and interpretation at Concordia University, and conducts the jazz choir at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. She gives master classes to visiting schools, adjudicates, and teaches private lessons in jazz singing.
An accomplished vocalist and arranger, Madeleine Thériault balances emotion and technique in a nuanced delivery of songs. Her gentle voice, clear enunciation and compelling renditions contribute to create an intimate setting where originality merges with tradition.
