About Me

Steve Robinson is a guitarist and vocalist living near Bath. Brought up in the North East of England, Steve started playing guitar at the age of 16. After leaving University he discovered folk music, and started going to folk clubs. One night he saw Tony Rose, and was immediately converted to using open tunings. Steve was a resident at the Bay Hotel Folk Club in Cullercoats for several years before moving to the South West. He currently performs at both folk clubs and festivals, often with Alie Byrne, one of the finest vocalists on the circuit.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Steve Robinson Guitar and Vocals
Influences: Crikey - take a deep breath.... Nic Jones, Tony Rose, Martin Simpson, Nick Dow, John James, Adrian Legg (Can't play like any of these guys), Maddy Prior, June Tabor, Kate Rusby, Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Lee Collinson, Steve Tilston, Tom McConville, Kieran Halpin, Pete Coe, Martin Carthy (should have been much further up the list), Stewart Hardy, Gill McCutcheon, John and Elsie Nettleton, Steve Fry, Paul Murphy, Alan Rawe, Bill Elliott, Cyril Tawney, Liza Tubb, Anne Lister, Bothy Band, Dab Hand, The House Band, Bandoggs, Sara Grey, Debbie McClatchy, and millions of others that I have seen and heard down the years.
Sounds Like: You decide - I have only ever really tried to sound like myself. I don’t really see the point in expending time and energy sounding like somebody else. Some of the arrangements owe a great deal to the source or sources from which I learned them, others don’t.

Barry Cheesman

I was saddened to hear last night that Barry Cheesman had died. He was a lovely bloke with an enormous love of music, and the enthusiasm about it to inspire others. He will be very much missed.
