About Me

In a nutshell: every student has at least one teacher they will always remember in life - why not be that teacher? that's my philosophy. This past year I took a job as the SAC teacher and coach at my old public highschool. SAC meant Special Assignment Class and it was attended by the students who struggled with troubling behaviors and sorta made poor decisions while in school. (the bad kids as i would call them). My job didnt require much - make sure the kids got work and werent doing anything. instead, i decided to interact with the kids, get to know them, and throw what i called my two cents in about things. I lectured about life, helped with assignments, tutored them for exams, and brought up real life issues to make the kids think, which was my main focus. a student once told me she hated coming to SAC because i made her think too much, but i realize that was my goal as the teacher - to get them to think. I was a kid from the same 'hood' these kids grew up in and was fortunate enough to be able to experience the world outside of it. From places to travel to, the idea of life, to even deciding what kind of sushi one should order as a beginner, we talked about. All I wanted them to do was think-think-think. I've been influenced by movies and books such as Freedom Writers and I use that as my foundation to help me understand the kids i came in contact with. I had them write entries or just express what they were feeling so that people, asides themselves, understood who they were and what they stand for. I love my kids and I hope one day i will get to work with them again. I decided to use myspace as a means to keep in touch with my students so that if they needed my advice or my 2 cents, id give it to them. I met a close group of friends at a boarding school and we made a pact to do it for the youths. I changed the SAC accronym and officially made it. S.ave A. C.hild. and its something im really serious about. Not everyone's a doctor, a ball player, or even a thug, but everyone does have geniune kindness and good in there heart - you just have to bring it out in them. Help me out. Get a T-shirt that I made for the students. It goes to a good cause - the idea that the kids are the future and if we dont educate them or get them to do their best, we as a whole are getting the crappy end of the stick. So - S.ave A. Child. As for me - in a nutshell. Mentoring is just one of MANY things that I’m passionate about. Live and Love life. You can't knock it unless you've tried it or understand the culture behind it. Letting people read about you is boring - people should find out from the source themselves. I wish i was as cool and 'gangsta' as my students-Not. Everyone’s a box of crayon – I chose to be the big pack - 256 colors – crayola. =) ..
