Youth of the Peaks is an organization of indigenous and non-indigenous youth from various locations working on issues facing their communities. Formed back in 2005, YOP first formed facing the issue of protecting the San Francisco Peaks of Northern Arizona. The peaks are held sacred to over 13 indigenous tribes in the southwestern united states. Arizona Snowbowl, a ski resort located on the western side of the peaks, proposal of creating artificial snow from reclaim waste water is offensive to the tribes whom hold the peaks sacred and also is an offense to environmental groups. As the next generation as youth, we are the voices of tomorrow, we are here to support and protect our people with the lands we hold sacred and everything beautiful in life.
[watch “The Snowbowl Effect†a documentary by Klee Benally on our blog] for more information about the protection of the San Francisco Peaks, please visit www.savethepeaks.org
YOP also works on issues facing the land, water and other issues facing our community such as supporting local farming, living a healthy life other than the road of drugs, alcohol and abuse.Save The Peaks: Pasadena March and Vigil
