I live in a small ski town in Southern British Columbia. I spend my days working from home (I have my own internet business), playing with my 1 year old daughter and enjoying all the outdoor activities that are at my door step.
Life wasn't always like this for me....
After graduating with a university degree in finance I quickly realized that what I had learned in school was how to become a employee. It was a harsh realization.... that I was destined to spending my days in a cubicle working for an investment company. Letting them dictate when I worked, how much I could earn and when I could have a vacation.
Needless to say I avoided this situation like the plague.
Instead, I moved to British Columbia, became a bar tender, and skied over 100 days each season. Life was good for a few years....
The only problem was; I was broke all the time and still had a JOB.
To rectify this situation I looked into starting a franchise business called Tim Horton's. It is a really popular coffee and doughnut chain in Canada. They typically are very successful and after four to six years you can break even on your investment. Four to six years of working 80+ hours in a coffee and doughnut shop. Here is the kicker....It was going to cost over $700,000.00 to start. Yes, that's Seven Hundred Thousand dollars.
Oddly enough, the money wasn't what really concerned me. It was the working 80+ hours in a coffee shop while managing dozens of employees. I realized that I would never have any time for my family and I could kiss my skiing days good bye.
SO WHAT DID I DO?
I turned to the internet. Yes, the haven of get rich quick schemes, ponzie schemes, and the age old pyramid.
And...I fell into each of these so called businesses.
I made a little money but lost a bunch. The main problem was that none of the businesses I found had a solid foundation. Here today, gone tomorrow to say the least. In any case, my dream of becoming a business owner was slowly slipping away. I continued to mix martinis and have conversations with strangers, it seemed as if I may be a bar tender for life.
With a little persistence I finally got involved with a online business that worked for me. I met a fantastic group of online marketers who helped me build my business. I have learned a ton in the past four years about internet marketing and I continue to learn more each day. My businesses are growing, and I truly love what I do. Best of all, the only drinks I make these days are from the comfort of my own home.
To keep with the skiing theme of my life, my company is officially called www.BlackDiamondMarketing.net
