Here is how it all came about...
Ian sent me an email a while ago saying do something. He wanted to do something (surprisingly), that was a good thing and actually, you know, cool.
As with everything I said I wanted it to be about comics. Well so did Ian, so that was nice.
We have a passion for comics (we work for Forbidden Planet in London one of the best comic stores around) and we thought it made sense to mix that with our aim of getting people to think about what’s going around them and hopefully encourage people to take action. I thought doing something for charity and involving comics, was such a nice thing to happen I must have walked into a Famous Five book, or similar; you know, set in ‘the good old days’ when it was ‘better’. As these days the world is a horrible place and people don’t really do nice things anymore. Apart from us, now.
I will visit every con I can and, dressed in the kind of clothes that make people want to buy a comic where the proceeds go to charity, we will sell them to all!
Our first issue is called ‘Green’ and features stories and artwork about the environment. The money raised will go to the World Land Trust (www.worldlandtrust.org/). Contributers include: Phil Corbett, Steve Fable, Leonie O’Moore, The King Blues, plus quite a few up and coming artist and authors.
I can’t write for toffee, and Ian doesn’t think he can draw. I said neither can Rob Liefeld but still, I decided I would draw the story Ian writes. We figured if it was successful then we could do another one for a different charity with a different title. We figure if its anthology, then we can give it a series title, and after much umming, and humming, I came up with genius title of do you want to kiss it better? I lie; of course, I saw it written on a postcard Ian has on his wall. I’m not that witty without whiskey....
The problem here is you possibly now think I am trying to get you do 'something for nothing'. And I am.
The next issue will deal with poverty and be in aid of the charity Concern (http://www.concern.net/) We were hoping you’d be up for drawing, writing (or both), on the subject of poverty. It can be any length from 1-5 pages and take any form you want.
But it’s for charity which is only nothing for you; it means lots to other people. And of course you don't quite get nothing... you get a warm feeling inside you. Oh come on, do it for the children! People always do things for the children, come on!
SO NOW WE GET TO THE NITTY GRITTY AND WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT...
If you’re up for it please email us back on [email protected] with a bit of an idea of what you think you’d be up for doing, and some kind of timeframe, if that’s not too rude to ask, only we’re going to have to coordinate getting everything together. Or if you want to ask us something just get in touch. Or if you have some advice, or anything….
Thanks for reading this. Lou X
