About Me

I happily dwell in Los Angeles, CA with my husband, Dean, and our two kitty cats, Linus and Miles. I recently graduated with my M.A. in Literature, got married last April and Dean and I are expecting our first baby this December. Big life decisions are ahead--like HOW on earth it will ever be feasible (and sane) to buy a shabby fixer-upper for over a million in L.A., PhD now, later, or never--and all in no particular order. In the meantime, we are blissfully content in sunny southern California. Dean is a recording engineer at a music studio on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and I teach English.

My Interests

bicycles with wicker baskets, Sweden and anything Swedish, Hollywood Hills hikes, music, vintage and antique anything, baking, "This American Life" with Ira Glass, wine, books, gardening, painting, Dean, Miles, Linus, garlic, coffee, shoes, my family, rosemary, linen, teaching, food, decorating, NPR, warm French bread, old buildings, foreign accents, letterpress stationary, tweed coats and cardigans with elbow patches and debating politics, religion and philosophy with Dean (or anyone else who will listen) on a stoop in the late evening hours with a glass of vino in hand!

I'd like to meet:

Our little bun, Ira Glass, Michel Foucault, Joni Mitchell . . . AND people who will bring happiness to my life--and those who I can give it to in return.

Music:

Charlotte Gainsbourg, Serge Gainsbourg, Ane Brune, Grizzly Bear, Alpha, Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire, Stereolab, Kings of Convenience, Erland Oye, Glen Hansard, The Frames, Of Montreal, Whitest Boy Alive, Joni Mitchell, The Shins, Elbow, Band of Horses, Blonde Redhead, Beirut, Mouse On Mars, The Bird and the Bee, Tori Amos, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Emmy Lou Harris, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Jose Gonzalez, Feist, Inara George, Belle and Sebastian, MGMT, Priscilla Ahn, James Brown, Peter Bjorn and John, Gomez, Sigur Ros, Turin Brakes, The Flaming Lips, Neil Young, The Magic Numbers, TV on the Radio, Air, Bebel Gilberto, Devotchka, Radiohead, Nina Simone, The Polyphonic Spree, Josh Rouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Joseph Arthur, Broken Social Scene, Tori Amos, Postal Service, Beck, Doves, Bob Dylan, Iron and Wine, Bill Frisell, Sea and Cake, The Ditty Bops, Caribou, Travis, The Decemberists, Pink Floyd, My Brightest Diamond, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Sun Ra . . .

Movies:

GENRES: Indie, Foreign, Documentary, Biography and anything historical or based on a true story--I'm a sucker for a true tale.

Television:

T.V. is pretty boring. We only subscribe to basic cable on purpose because it naturally inhibits any inclination to become couch potatoes. But, here is a slim list of a few winners. . . Law and Order, Brothers and Sisters, Cold Case, Without A Trace and Super Nanny (Yes!--regardless of the fact that Dean makes fun of me, I am not embarrassed to say that I LOVE Super Nanny! Jo rocks.)
