Born in Mexico City, Maria Elena Anaya began her career in Spanish dance at the age of 3. She has performed at the most important venues in Mexico including the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Teatro de la Danza and Sala Miguel Covarrubias and has participated in several television shows and videos including the TV series "Los que Hacen el Arte" (Those Who Make Art) produced by the Autonomous National University of Mexico as an homage to Manolo Vargas. In 1990, the House of Andalucia in Mexico honored her with the highest prize that institution confers, "La Castanuela de Plata" (The Silver Castanet).
