Throughout 2008 Take 1 Studios will be presenting a series of workshops and events that celebrate the Hip Hop culture. Looking at and documenting the history that lies behind the days of Kool Herc and how his actions has effected millions worldwide and in particular those living in the city of Nottingham.Workshops will focus on the individual art forms and aim to educate the participant in the history of the Hip Hop Movement.Workshops include Djing, Graffiti art on canvas, Break dancing and Capoeria. The participant will be able to develop their skills by learning techniques and understanding the background of each art form.An exhibition towards the end of the year will bring together all of the elements and provide participants with a platform to showcase what they have learnt throughout the project. This will include rapping, displaying turntables skills, singing a traditional song used in Capoeria, break-dancing or presenting their graffiti art.
The event will also exhibit clothing traditionally worn by those practising Capoeria and Break-dance, allow attendees to experiment with a wide range of musical sounds ranging from the instruments used in caporiea to beatboxing and have a go at creating their own graffiti piece.A trained video documentation team will film the project. Who will produce a DVD source to be accessed by all in Nottinghamshire Libraries. The DVD will provide an educational resource documenting the history of the Hip –Hop culture. Demonstrating the dance movements used in capoeria during slavery and the similarity they have to those used in break-dancing during the 1980s.
