Thüryn has been involved in the music world for over 20 years. A native of Canada, he studied piano with reputed jazz pianists: Lorraine Desmarais, Luc Beaugrand and Steve Amirault while attending renowned St-Lawrence college; then Jazz Performance, Arranging and Composing with american pedagogist Dr Charles Ellison Ph.D. at Concordia University in Montreal.
He then went on to further is musical studies in Paris with international jazz star Michel Petrucianni . Also, the Canadian Council of the Arts as well as the Quebec Council of the Arts awarded him with a Career Perfection grant to go study in New York City with Blue Note recording artist’s: Jacky Terrasson and Kenny Werner .
Thüryn’s talent both as a soloist and accompanist quickly made him one of Quebec’s well sought after musician. He was picked up by master bassist Alain Caron ( formerly of UZEB ) to tour internationally with his band. Played many times with local legend Michel Donato ( Miles Davis, Bill Evans…) Played with many well known pop acts: Maceo Parker in Paris ( sax player for James Brown ), Pointer Sisters , Martha High ( back up singner for James Brown ) He also composed film music, won many awards: Canada’s National Ragtime contest, nominated for best jazz album of the year with his trio at L’ADISQ ( grammy equivalent in Quebec ), Canada’s Young Artist Competition ( 1st prize ) where he played nationaly and on many radio shows.
From 2003 to 2005 he was the host ,with his trio, of the famous Jam Session’s of the Montreal International Jazz Festival where he got to play with: Georges Benson , James Carter, Russel Malone, Buena Vista Social Club, Ray Charles’s big band, Roy Hargrove , Wynton Marsalis band, Tony Bennett’s band and many others.
Thüryn also traveled extensively playing with his own groups where he traveled to more than fifty countries ( Thailand, Australia, Nicaragua, Aruba, Egypt, Vietnam, Hawaii, Mexico, French Polynesia…)
For the last four years, Thüryn has been involved in electronic music, building computers for music studios, touring, composing and arranging for many different artists: Cirque Akya ( ex Cirque du Soleil members ) played and lived for two years in Paris.
His overall musicianship, high spirited energy and positiveness makes him one of the most sought after musician in his field.
