I, Shenita McConis, was born in Birmingham, AL where I was raised by my mother along with a twin sister and an older brother. I graduated Suma Cum Laude from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering, where I pledged Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc. After college, I accepted an internship with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District. During this time, I also attained a Masters of Engineering degree specializing in Engineering Management from the University of Louisville.
I am a person who loves a challenge and loves to make a difference. If I only had one word to describe myself, it would be "servant." All of my life, my mother has taught me that we are blessed to be a blessing. So, I begin each day with a grateful heart for how God has blessed my life, which inspires and reminds me to remain humble. I entered the Miss Black U.S.A. Scholarship Pageant because I believe in challenging yourself, conquering your fears, and reaching your goals.
I believe in challenging myself to achieve the goals I think seem a stretch…almost out of reach. The Miss Black USA Pageant is that goal. I am ever striving to develop into the woman I know can be…someone who is adventurous, determined, loving, giving, passionate, fun, friendly, intelligent and so much more. I believe in myself, and believe that I could represent other young African American women as Miss Black U.S.A.
