As a child, Al has always gravitated towards music in some way, from playing his Mothers pillows as drums on her bed, to air guitar in front of the family at various gatherings. At eleven, he began playing upright bass, by thirteen he also began electric bass. By sixteen he was spending most of his free time figuring out various albums from groups like Rush, Primus, Iron Maiden. Throughout his high school expirence, his jazz ensemble instructor showed him Jaco Pastorious’ first, self-titled release. From that point on Al had found his inspiration, emersing himself in studying jazz and not only bass guitarists such as Jaco, but also Ron Carter, John Pattitucci, and Paul Jackson. Horn players like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and piano players like Herbie Hancock. Al was lucky enough to go to high school and play with some notable musicians like Nick Bagglio aka NYK (Morrison Poe) and John Holihan - R.I.P. (Bayside) Lauren and Greg Sevian, All of which were inspirations to push him foward Al studied at the Purchase College of Music graduating with a B.F.A in Jazz performance. Some of his teachers were bassists like Tony Cimorosi, Micheal Goetz, Anthony Tino, and other notable instructors were Charlie Blenzig, Peggy Stern, Doug Munro, Jason Fenichel and many others. In college, he also experimented with eletronic music and DJing Drum ‘n Bass and House music which he still does today. After graduating he continued his studies with players like Fima Ephron (Screaming Headless Torsos) and Mike Frost (The Deep, and Esteban) He has played and recorded with a plethera of many different artists and producers like Ana Lovelis, John Hampson (Nine Days) Paul Umbach (Brittney Spears), David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamen), John Negron (Halfmanwonder), Sarah Hudson, Luciar, Sinem, The Hitmakers, Alan Assuncione (Stomp), Jason Fenichel, Jason Camiolo (Fuzzbubble / composer), John Miceli (Meatloaf), Micheal Sorrentino (Ritchie Blackmore and Movin' Out), Joe Chirco (Zen Tricksters), Kevin McLeod, The Goldbergs, Mark Foscolo, Sandy Jayne, Rich Kern (Shrapnel guitarist), Matt Hogan (Hannah Montana, Mylle Cyrus) and the list goes on and on. He is also the first-call session bassist at Cloud 9 Recording Studio on Long Island, and gigging locally with the club date/wedding band Classifyd. Jason Fenichel Trio "Joshua"
