About Me

[ iTunes ] [ Amazon.ca ] [ Amazon MP3 ]
Carly and Mark are an exhilaratingly fresh and edgy acoustic folk-pop group from Toronto/Waterloo Ontario. Starting out as a duo, childhood friends Carly Blasutti (vocals) and Mark Hart (fingerstyle guitar/vocals), hit the ground running with their indie debut, 'Carly and Mark' in 2005. Described as “sheer acoustic beauty” by indieheart.com, the disc earned Carly and Mark 3 Toronto Independent Music Award nominations including Best Song ("Dreamin' Of"), Best Female Fronted Group, and Best Live Acoustic Group!
Now performing as a quartet with acoustic bassist Bret Higgins (Beyond The Pale, the Great Lake Swimmers) and drummer Joshua Van Tassel (David Myles, The Outlanders), Carly and Mark just released ‘New City Morning’, a stunning album featuring the full band. The lead track ‘Morning Light Praying’ has already been named best folk song of 2008 by Toronto Exclusive Magazine, included in the Toronto Star's coveted 'Anti-Hit List’, and featured as a top 5 selection by Songwriter Universe Magazine. Blending folk, jazz, pop, and blues, the band creates a sonic tapestry featuring Carly's striking vocals and Mark's consummate fingerstyle guitar, underscored throughout by lyrics that are at once poignant and light.

Karen Gordon, CBC, "Fresh Air" “Oh I so like that... ”it’s wonderful, they’re terrific!... I wish them lots of success.”indieheart.com "sheer acoustic beauty"The Guardian "There are songs of sweetness and light for the head and heart, but there also songs of grit and groove that make those little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and scream, “give me more of that.” What’s not to love about handsomely crafted songs beautifully played with great vocal work and solid production values."Target Audience Magazine "...an acoustic mix of inspirational creativity that will tickle your senses. Carly has amazing vocals that complement Mark’s singing guitar. Speechless. Carly and Mark portray what “the unfolding of time” will do for them. Creative and talented artists like these will not stay hidden for very long. The best artists are those who can touch the souls of others. That is exactly what Carly and Mark have done [with] an album that is funky and jazzy with enough diversity that music lovers of all genres will appreciate."Unsigned Music Magazine 4 stars. Carly has a very lovely voice that really complements Mark's fantastic guitar playing!" Maxwell's Music House "These days, everyone and anyone in a band hijacks the title musician, but Carly and Mark are in the very truest way musicians and talented songwriters. Their musical palette is diverse, drawing from a wide range of musical influences, which is refreshing in an age of musical homogeny. The only down side is that I expect they'll soon get too big to play our venue!!"
